ST162 Front Speakers Sat, 23 October 2004 12:04 Go to next message
i current have some blaupunkt 4 inch speakers in the front, and i am goin to be running a 12 inch sub in the back. My front speakers are 35 RMS watts, and i was told that the sub would drown them out.

i have 2 choices. replace them with higher power 4inch splits in the factory location or mount some bigger speakers in the door.

i was told a while back that i might not fit speakers in the door because of the power window module that was there. Is this true? have anyone mounted splits in the door, if so what size? and how did you do it?

thanks for all your imput Smile

I know "niggel_e" on these forums made custom pods that sat out a little bit and they worked well for him

It definatly can be done, the previous owner of my car fitted splits in the front doors ill grab some photos for you when i can, i do believe it requires some degree of door surgery, i know wiso also made himself some door pods but he didnt have power window gear to deal with

i have 4" inch front speakers and a big 12" in the back, it sounds good, but you miss out on mid bass. But i buaght the best 4" i could find which ended up bieng fusion 120watts with adjustable tweeters.

Your best options would be to get an 8" subwoofer which covers mid bass and is a better match for you 4" speakers, or put 6" in the back to cover mid bass and let the subwoofer cover the deep bass. Problem with that tho is that your soundstage becomes less then ideal. Deep bass doesn't matter becuase you can't tell where it's coming from, but midbass you can tell where it's coming from and it will come from behind. That is how my setup is at the moment but it's sounds good still. if your running your 35watt 4" off your headunit there's no point getting higher power 4" speakers.

I run 4 4" speakers in the original positions, the front 2 are pioneer, and the rear are boss, all this with a 12" sub in the boot, i find that it puts out plenty of power, being a coop you don't need really loud speakers to hear it.
