WTF my 2t-geu sounds like a wrx???

i have a 75 celica with a stock 2t-geu with twin 40mm solex carbies and ramflow air filters on it, 4-2-1 extractors and an electronic fuel pump.
i couldnt find any thing on search hat was related.
long story short it sounds like a wrx with an exhaust and lacks acceleration.
i have checked the carbies, air filter and the spark plugs and found nothing wronng. I also cheaked the distributer timing and found that if i rotate it clockwise a bit it goes back close to normal but idels higher.
what else should i check to ensure it wont happen again?
this is the second time it has happened, the first was when i missed 2nd gear and redlined 1st, which led to one of my carbies sucking the air filter into one of the air intakes (1st cylinder). this has resulted in that mysterious wrx noise.
much help needed due to people looking for a wrx and seeing me when driving up the road. they're like "WTF!! thats not a wrx"

Check the oil, i had the same problem with my 4ag ae82 once. Sounds like a wrx at low revs and no power, once the revs got up it seemed fine. couldn't work it out untill i checked the oil there was none! mental note if you put thin oil in a hi km motor check the oil regularly! turned out i cracked the head between a water jacket and water was getting into the cylinder. Good old chemi-weld helped the tuff 4a live a bit longer

I concur with Danish, if your engine misses one one or more cylinders it can give that 'rexy' exhaust note and lack of power, you should also notice it idles rougher and/or at a lower speed

head gasket will do it as well sometimes
mostly does that when one cylinder isnt running and the idle will be shit and yeah lots of power loss

when you start it up, and it's sounding liek a WRX, take off the plug leads one at a time and find out which cylinder is not firing..
i would suggest buying or borrowing a differetn set of plug leads also, in case one of yours is busted.

There's a slight chance it's the auxiliary venturi in the Solex carbys. In two out of two that I've fiddled with, the aux venturi's have either been loose or have completely falled out. Unfortunately the carbies are shit and the only way to fix them is to fit Webers or better still EFI.

i have checked the leads and they are fine when it's running normal, ill cheak them again prior to warming up engine(when wrx noise).
Bill Sherwood can you please explain to me what is the purpose of an auxiliary venturi?
where on the carby would i find these auxiliary venturi?
what would be the cause of this failing or falling off? eg loose screw(if any), blocked etc.
how or/and can this be modified? => what would be a band-aid fix to get the car running for a couple of months.(hopely 4 months, this will give me enough time to get the rest of the money for an engin conversion)
suggestions appreciated thanks for the feed back fellas.

The auxiliary venturi is the gadget that looks like a little tube , and it sits in the centre of the carby throat. It's a small venturi in itself, and it's the gadget that lets the fuel get sucked into the airstream, then into the engine.
If that falls out, then the fuel will still get sucked in, but in large drops instead of much finer droplets, and at some weird mixture ratio so the engine runs like a dog.
The ones I had fall out did it all by themselves and I'm not sure why. They were untouched, as they came from the factory.
There's a small screw under the middle of the carby body on each side that screws up into the bottom of the auxiliary venturi to hold it in place. Once that screw gets a little loose, it works around and burrs over the bottom of the venturi and it eventually falls out. They can't be fixed.
Again, the only real way to fix it is to put on some decent carbies such as 40mm Webers.
They're junk.
