thoughts/theories re: 4a-gze idle problems with FMIC Sun, 24 October 2004 12:37 Go to next message
just been pulling apart an AE101 GZE intake and working out all the VSV's and vacuum workings, and i decided to have a play with the ISCV and the throttle body - to see how they work.

Now from what i have been told, and what i can work out, is that the GZE ECU controls the ISCV (stepper motor) to bring up the idle speed. It takes air from in front of the butterfly via a small port and allows a certain volume to flow past based upon the position of the stepper motor, and then flow through to the engine side of the butterfly.

Now i read all over the place, and hear of people's experiences with GZE's and front mount intercoolers having problems with idling - thanks to the longer intake run.

Looking at the way the ISCV works, it has an adjustment plate underneath to set its base position... why cant you just move the position around to open the valve up further???

Has anyone ever tried this? Any experiences, better knowledge than dumbarse me?

I wont be able to find out, this GZE is going straight to turbo

I think you're best off playing with the other end of the ISCV. The light grey plastic bit with the plug in it. There are two screws holding this to the alloy body. You can loosen the screws and rotate the whole plastic bit and attached shaft to open/close the bypass bit. I even slotted the adjustment slots so I could close it off that little bit extra.

Unsure what those three screws you're talking about do. It could work from that end too.

But an even easier way to up the idle is using the manual bypass screw on the TB.

Also, the GZE idle contrsl is rotary solenoid (with an open and close wire), not stepper motor.
