Mods for 2t Sun, 24 October 2004 14:37 Go to next message
I need some info on some cheapish mods that can be done to a 2t to get a bit of power out of it, not looking at big power increase.
I've been told to get a twin cam 3t head and either single or twin webbers, what type of price range would i been looking at there?
Dont really want to spend any more then $500 as im already spending alot of money on exterior (rust, paint, parts) and interior (basically everything).

What are some other good suggestions to do? or should i just stick to what ive been told already?

Your talking about the single cam version, yes?

Different cam, extractors, 2in exhaust and a single weber.
If your up to the excise you could even swap the bottom end for the 3t. Crank and rods.
If you go the 2cam way. you'd be better off in ditching the 2tc and getting a whole 2tg. And then use the 3t bottom end.

i recon its not worth doing at all other than extractors and twin side draughts. that way if you go 2TG or the 3T hybrid then the webbers and exhaust interchange i believe (maybe some nods required)

for $500 you can get yourself a very decent and complete 2TG, i wouldnt touch the 2T, it would be a waste of time and money.

As for webers, expect to pay around $400-1200 for a side draft setup.. they are pretty exy yes and really you do need quite a bit of work done to your T engine for them to really be making a difference to standard solex items, Mikuni solexs will do you fine up to 2.0L and they are cheap $150-350..

maybe you meant 2TG head on 2t block? and not 3T head? because that mod has been done before, but is really not worth the labour when you can get a complete 2TG for that price.. id say look around until you stumble across a complete 2TG thats in decent nick..

hope that helps
cheers.

How much would i be looking at paying for twin side drafts?

The reason im looking to replace the carbie is the enigne has been sitting around for 2years and the one thats on it now is fucked so i though getting a webber would be a good idea.

Assuming you are going to be throwing the twins on the 2T, you must first chase up a manifold to match the 2T stud pattern a 2TG intake manifold will not bolt up to the 2T head.. secondly youl either have to fix your linkages to suit the side drafts or make up a cable and run it from your pedal to the carbs.
the prices you would likely to be paying for side drafts is in my earlier reply..

but if your looking at just getting a replacement downdraft weber, thats pretty good and isnt expensive at all, ive seen some go through here at $150.. but at the end of the day its your choice..

cheers.

Or maybe use a weber from a 2L Ford motor. But i don't know how much their worth or how much a rebuild would be.

The 32/36 Downdraft webber will do the job quite well. You can buy an adaptor plate to fit your manifold from Carburetor service company on Parramatta rd. Making the linkages work will be a mongrel but I think they do a kit for that to.

A second hand escort weber will prolly set uyopu back about $50 if your lucky but keep in mind its just as old so may also be farked ! A new one is over $400 last I enquired. They will supply and fit a new one but it will be outside your budget.

The 2TG is a better engine, In stock form tho it will rev a little better but will make FA more power than your 2T. A working 2T makes 12 HP less than a 2TG !

Depends what you want to get out of it but your budget doesn't give you many options.

That would be a bit of a backwards step.

A good condition DGV Weber can be had for around $200.
Get a cam ground up (mine is 278deg and its streetble enough) and then stick on a set of extractors and a 2 inch exhaust.
Wind the timing up a bit and I rekon you'll be amused for a while. Thats pretty much my setup and its fast enough.
You'll beat a VL with a "sports exhaust" if thats what you're after Wink
Alot of people under-estimate the 2T, but with a few bucks spent in the right place they make 2TG power or more and are pretty much indestructable.
good luck!

If it's a 2TC I would not bother throwing money at it. You can get a cam grind done and extractors. Also, the yanks at Big Racing Daddy have good results with a rejetted (22R/20R?) Carby. The 2TC is a really old motor though...
