Hi everyone im new to these boards
im seggy
i have a 1988 ma70 supra
its auto, areo top, has tems adjustable suspension, 16 inch rimz, and the 7m-ge engine
i am wonted to do a 1jz conversion as that is what i beleive the jap spec mk3 supras have
i have been told i can pick up an auto front cutt for around the $1800 mark where as the 5spd manual will set you back around the $4000 mark. Is this true?
how hard is the conversion and what type of price would i be looking at as a totatl?
thanks for your help

I wouldn't expect much change from $10k but don't quote me on that. Thats including everything to get it going in great condition. Of course its going to be less if you can do some of the work yourself...

1jz auto cuts used to be around $1800 but now they are popular so they are about $2500. As you have a supra already, you can get a supra jza70 cut which is mid crossmember which are generally a little cheaper than the chaser cuts as they are in higher demand.
I don't know the specifics of your conversion but generally you would need:
engine mounts
possible tail shaft mods
intercooler and piping
ecu wired in or aftermarket ecu
change little things like plugs, fluids, belts and hoses if needed.
these things add up.
I know my corona conversion is a lot different and more difficuly but mine cost around $7000 and that was buying the car half done.

2500 auto and 3800 manual in jza70 is what I see in Brisbane. If you go manual allow for new clutch and machining 3 or 4 hundred.Tailshaft mods 2 to 4 hundred.Auto elec 6 hundred.etc. Normally people dont agree on all these prices as it all relates to what they had to spend themselves which varies due to time available and luck when shopping etc.
Plenty of help available on this forum.Cheers.Pete.

There is some similar information on my site, but unless you do everything yourself you are looking at an expensive conversion.
Perhaps sell the car and find a JZA70 or MA70 converted to 1JZ?

hrrm, i would have thought it would be a fairly simple conversion..
what about the 7m-gte (i think thats it) the turbo version of what i have now? what type of power would that make and is it a good engine?
would that be a more sensible engine conversion? keeping in mind id keep it auto now, and then later do the manual conversion
id use stock computer (turbo one ofcourse), and everything for a descent amount of time
thanks for the help

7m-gte would be the cheapest. 1jz next but really only because of the cheaper cost of the engine. Then 2jz.
7m's can make big power but will need a metal head gasket and retorqued head bolts. But you can do this when it is out of the car so it wouldn't be too hard.

hrmm ok yeh i heard they have head problems after about 50,000 k's. and the fact that mine is pretty much gone now!
so i wouldnt be dissapointed with the 7m-gte?(keeping in mind im used to a 1989 nissan exa...she looks tough tho) what type of kw would i expect from a 7m-gte
and would it be better to get a manual front cutt and just get it over and done with?
rough cost any one?
thanks..sorry for being a pain

The 7M-GTE's put out around 240HP, couldn't tell you if you would be dissapointed or not as i've never had my right foot on so much horses but i'd say yes. and i would go for the Manual half cut becuase it'd just be easier to do it all at once if you have the money. and you would get all the parts associated with the manual in the half-cut instead of sourcing them later

A jza70 half cut manual would be around 3800.. and that would be completely bolt in to your car.. Id say with full exhaust and everything your conversion would net somewhere round 7-8 depending what else you do
I didnt do my conversion but with all the mods(not many.. just cooler + piping and boost controller and pod(that came with car)
cost me about 10k
that also included things like lsd, custom tailshaft, new clutch etc
