GA70 = gen 3 1ggte?

I'm getting an engine from SSS, but the person I spoke to seemed to want to cover himself, I kept asking for a "gen 3 1ggte, with grey ecu plugs", to which he would reply, "i've got one here, out of a ga70, grey plugs, but its not a gen 3".
Is this right?

I honestly wouldn't trust the colour of the ECU plugs to tell you what gen the engine is... as long as it's air/air intercooled, it'll be one of the later models... Probaly.
I apparently have a gen 3 engine, the crankshaft bearings had to be ordered from toyota, and they were for a late 1g-gte... which is most likely a gen 3. That and it makes about 10psi boost max.
In the end, it's pot luck imho.

ask for pictures
pics of the ecu and injector tops
then make your decision based on the toymods articles area

If it came out of a GA70 it's a gen 3 (ie 210hp version).

Green Injector plugs, grey ecu, out of a GA70. Beats me how he figures its not a gen 3. Also a mid-rear sump. Ah well, its on its way soon anyways.

The easiest way is the number of pins on the ECU, Gen3's have a lot more. Gen2's have an air/air cooler with the same ECU as the Gen1.

Err my engine has yellow ECU plugs but the Gen3 26 pin one's..go figure..and the turbos have marking C1 and C2 just like a gen 3 engine ..so i think toyota is a bit mixed up...what some other ways to tell..apart from the above and the TPS...
I haven't looked at the exaust outlet..i heard there is some diffrence there..

If you speek to jeff at SSS he can tell you if it is a gen 3 or not,
As long as its out of a ga70 I wouldn't be to bothered that is the later modeled car so your chances of getting a gen 2 are slim

Yeah its not a problem, I dealt with Joe I think. I guess its in their best interest warranty wise to try to get newer/low km engines. Or maybe i'm being optimistic.
We'll see though, i'm glad I just got in there and bought it, otherwise money would slowly dwindle, and i'd just be procrastinating.
