I've gone over 200km/hr in a 90 zone. doesn't mean it's legal Razz

and yes, it is illegal. think of what would happen if you had to brake suddenly

You can tow with a proper towing rope, but you can't tow with normal everyday rope.

That's how I understand it to be anyway. If that's not the case, I have no idea why Supercheap sell strongarse rope/cord with "Towing Rope" on the package.

I assume that would be for off-road purposes. tehre is no safe way to tow anyhting with rope in a situation that may require hard braking (like on public roads)

You must tow with an approved 'A' frame that fits to a towball and is chaned to the tow points of the other car.

Ropes are a big nono

Assuming you have mechanical difficulties & cannot get the engine going then your brake booster would also be stuffed i.e. you'd have virtually no brakes...

Having said that I once needed a tow from about 30k's outside of Walgett. Having waited over 2 hours for NRMA I accepted a tow off a couple of Aboriginals in an old Valiant.

Nice guys Very Happy Got into town & the NRMA van was just leaving Laughing

reminds me of an incident when considerably younger and stupider
was @ an interview in st leanord ( didnt get it )
came out to find i had a flat battery
called nrma beign a member when they were a reputable insurance and extra service comany to get a jump start
30 min later the guy comes out yet 4 soemr eason he didnt have jumper leads so offers a pullstart ..up hill
anyways ties a rome 2 his towbar and to my tow hook under the car
he jumps in and he takes off
i jump in my car and go to kick her over...to realise that the ignition was locked off and steering was locked towardds the gutter and he had my car keys ( he had previosuly tried to start it usign my keys )
well after realising this i engage the brakes to stop the momentum towards the gutter and the car parked up on a driveway
snap goes the rope !!
out comes a very distraught nrma guy only to encounter me asking for my keys back
distraught nrma guy turns into embarresed nrma guy
anyways take two went fine and i got the car strated and back home
replaced the alternator and battery
mind you the alternator caught on fire and i ended up havign flames coming out from the bonnet while driving a coupel of weeks after getting the reco unit installed
for some reason i dont trust that auto electrician anymore and tend to keep the ekys to whatever car im driving at the time in my hands with a spare tow rope and jumper leads if possible

we towed my mates rotary after fan belt snapped. With thick rope.

We actually drove right past cops at an intersection. Luckily my mate in another mr2 drove right in front of the rope while we went past and blocked their view. It looked like we were just driving. DUMB ASS COPS

It's legal in vic! as long as the car being towed has its engine running and is otherwise driveable! Useful hey? Smile

That actually is useful for me, whose cars registraton is suspended, so I need to get a RWC.. and I can't get an unregistered vehicle permit, because it's registered!

one guy who towed my wreck from my front yard used 2 karate belts as tow rope. he didnt get very far cause the 'rope' snapped. the bastard just kept driving so i had to push the car back to my front yard.

I've got a couple of tow ropes made from old climbing ropes cut into 1/2 the 1/3rds, 3rds plaited together and eyespliced. Plenty of stretch, almost like a snatch strap, and damm sure ain't goning to break.

But NSW and most anywhere, need solid either a frame or bar. You could buy towing bars. A 75 x 75 RHS steel bar with a tow coupling at each end. You just need a towbar on the front of the car.

Is it illegal to push a car then? Insert old tyre in between etc...

yes the cops are dumb asses because they do not have X-ray vision

Yes rob well spotted u dick licker .
u look into things too much.
It's legal in tassie aslong is the is a marker in the middle of the rope and u both indicate, That's how i understood it anyway.

We towed a car with a chain cuz neither of us can tie proper knots. And a chain can be dragged in the ground.
Also when the car being towed is going down hill we reversed it so the car that was doing the towing was behind the disabled car and used the tow cars brakes for the both of them.
if that makes sense

Wanker.

Thats it Rob, stop thinking before you type, stop treating people with respect, stop being a descent human being.

Ps. Mookie, I suggest its better to look into things too much, than not enough. Do I need to make it more simple for you. Like less complicated n stuff n that.
