3 questions on the 1jz

1. is the only difference betwen a chaser and soarer front cut the sump? like, if I got a sump off the chaser and put it on the soarer, would it fit just as well as the chaser? (I know the soarer has a hydraulic water pump, and probably a few extra wired coming out of the ecu)
2. what car does the "short box" r154 come from? I think it's the soarer (hence the last question). I'd like to know, 'cause I know someone with a chaser sump, so I'm going to go looking for a front cut with the "short box" attached (not that I'm really sure exactly what the short box is, except for a shorter r154)
3. not really a 1jz question, but what effect will knocking some of the ribs out of a transmission tunnel have? I assume it'll reduce the strength of the tunel, but I've never heard of someone busting a transmission tunnel, so am I right in assuming that it shouldn't produce any problems?
cheers

I think that the "hydraulic" water pump you refer to is actually the water pump that features on the 1JZ Supra JZA70,which actually drives the cooling fan.The soarer motor doesn't have this feature at all.(I have a soarer 1JZ and a Supra 1JZ).
The blocks will be the same.

The transmission tunnel is an important structural feature of your car - it's not just there to house the transmission. It adds strength to the floorpan in the same way that corrugated iron is stronger than a flat sheet of metal (ie resists bending/twisting). Compromising the strength of your transmission tunnel is not a wise idea IMO.

if I ripped the ribs out from inside and went to them with a hammer, I could weld them above/below/on the side of the tunnel, on the outside... yes?

The "short" R154 you talk of is from a JZA70. Soarers have a remote shifter mechanism, so do chasers??.
The box is the same length, the shifter is further back on the soarer box, way further back.
JZA70 R154 has the shifter directly above the output shaft.
