Strange strange electrics... which aren't engine related!

Hi,
I have, for the 2nd time in the year i've owned this car, come across the same electrical fault... the headlights will not go down!
In addition to this annoying problem, I have noticed that my electric windows no longer work when the ignition has just been switched off and the door opened. When the headlights were doing their go down thing properly, I could turn off the car totally, and when I opened the door the electric windows would work until I closed the door.
I am assuming these two are related simply because they are both functions that can occur with the cars ignition off.
I noticed near the + battery terminal there is a little black box, which normally has a blue wire going into it, and a yellow wire coming from where the blue wire goes onto another terminal inside the box. I had to replace the blue wire - it was old and tired.
The problems started randomly, I was at a friends place, had been playing GT3 all afternoon and then drove off. Arrived at my next destination and the headlights stayed up
I'm not afraid to do electrical work, I just want some suggestions on where the fault could lie.
That, and small car sunday is coming up in a month and I want everything to be working right

Headlights are controlled by a relax box on the passenger side inner guard, near the AFM. Check this is working properly, getting power etc, and trace from there. No idea about your other problem, my power windows have never worked with the ignition off!

Alrighty, I just hope it's a cheap common part that I can buy easily
RE: the windows, my car was jap delivered, so maybe it was a "feature"?
