Ive got an 18rg (twin solex). if i get all the efi gear off an 18rgeu will it bolt straight on to the older 18rg?? or do i need to actually have the rgeu head.
I read something about the RGEU heads having the grooves for the injectors or something which made me doubt whether all the gear would fit.
Cheers Loki

Not sure if the RGEU head comes with tear drops, most likely. But I put them in when I converted, No a big thing. When I injected my Escort - pinto they were ment to have tear drops also but I didn't bother and it worked fine. If the head is on the car and you need to do it. I would be shoving a clean rag down the port so S%^t doesn't go down, but best to do with the head off.

Yes, when I converted my 18R-GU to EFI I added the teardrops in the ports with a round file. The alloy is pretty soft so it's not hard to do, but as Roger said be careful not to get any metal shavings in the engine if you're doing it with the engine assembled. Apart from that everything will bolt on - just make sure you get an 18R-GEU thermostat housing as the original one will foul the plenum.

It will work fine without the cutouts , Efi will be better for fuel econ but the carby setup will produce more power .

In my experience, the EFI conversion resulted in MORE power. The 18R-GEU has less power than the earlier twin-carb versions of the 18R-G, but this is because of the lower compression ratio and extra pollution gear attached to the 18R-GEU - NOT the fuel system.
Converting to EFI is the best thing I ever did - more power, much better drivability (especially at low rpm), and HEAPS better fuel economy! Never going back to carbs now.
