Does it smell strongly of petrol anywhere in or around your car at all?

I don't really know but I think if you give more details like mods etc. that may help.

One of two things are happening:

1. Fuel leak. We can't help you with that one, you'll just have to hunt it down. You should never be able to smell fuel in your car, so if you can there's obviously something amiss.

2. Engine running way way too rich. One clue will be black smoke coming out the tailpipe, especially when you nail it, but to be certain you should put the car on a chassis dyno with a gas analyser up the exhaust and find out exactly what the fuel mixtures are doing under load.

maybe you got a dodgy O2 sensor? I;ve heard that a dodged sensor can make your engine run pig rich. Just a thought.

A dodged O2 sensor would only do that in closed loop. Thats all they do.

Yep, and even then it doesn't have a massive impact on fuel economy... it only trims the mixtures by 5% or so.

4km a litre I thought mine was bad, pull the spark plugs out and see if they're black "really black in your case" if they look ok you must have a leak some where else. If they are all black check AFM, earthed injector loom, cold start injector leaking etc. If one or two are black probably leaking injectors are your cause... How does the car drive?

I've heard that bad charcol cannisters can mess with fuel consumption too. Still doesn't explain the fuel smell though.

It's also worth considering that it may not be one single problem - you could potentially have more than one problem with your fuel system.

Dude has to be a fuel leak, if it was that rich it would flood your plugs and it wouldnt run properly, and u would notice when driving u woudlnt be able to see behind you. You also mentioned you jsut converted it frrom 5mge to 7mgte, so you would hav had to touch the cold start injectors and fuel injectors you can also do a pressure test, but if its that bad you will track it down without one, check your fuel filter too.

Stick it on a dyno and check your exhaust gas readings for ratio? that would basically tell you if you have a leak, or a car running incredibly richly

Thanks guys...I'll have to check the spark plugs next...I know it's not the AFM cause I just changed it...The car still runs really good...it just drinks a lot of petrol...could it be the injectors, would they cause such a problem?

Usually injectors, if faulty will provide less fuel... not more unless they are told to by a faulty device controlling them
