18R-GEU Dizzy question with HEI kit Sat, 30 October 2004 22:49 Go to next message
Hoy hoy
After reading a few posts about the Jaycar Universal High Energy Ignition Kit, i thought i would go down and get myself one.
Now wiring this baby up won't be an issue but knowing what dizzy I have will be the hard part.
Still coming to grips with this whole engine thing, i am now trying to learn bout the Dizzy.
I have an 18R-GEU and i assume the correct dizzy for it (how can i tell, are there any telltale signs I can look for?).
So reading through the jaycar instructions talks about hall effect and points systems, so which one is the 18RGEU dizzy and on an off chance, if it isn't a Hall effect one, is it easy to convert it to one using other model cars...or is it not even worth it.
this whole setup connects to a Haltech f7 computer which controls the fuel.

if you could help me understand i would appreciate it more than a bit.
regards
Damien

i think the older-style in-dizzi pickups are reluctors

does that mean that the 18rgeu is the reluctor style so i should follow those instructions...?
is it possible to make it a hall effect style though if it is worth it?

unless you can securely mount the magenets (unelss the rotator is already magnetic) and you have a auto-suitable Hall effect then i'd suggests leaving as is.

the toyota design is robust and proven - given taht they seem to work despite oil, heat, poor connectivity and general operator stupidity.

also... i'd get someone like sideshow to confirm that they are indeed reluctors - my background is not electronics.
