double demerit points this weekend Fri, 04 October 2002 15:37 Go to next message
first, a quick warning not to speed, including today (friday), like I did on the way back from work. didn't get caught, but got home, then suddenly realised double demerits includes today

second.... it's only double demerits for speeding and seatbelts.. is that right?

and third... anyone know what the demerit point penalty is for crossing double lines?
2 of my friends were just on a cruise up the old pac highway, not speeding or anyhting, decided to turn around and come home, and cops came around the corner waaaaay up the end, just as they turned around.
the only reason the cops busted them was because they thought they were up there for "the drags" (as they put it). And then to top it off, as they stood together talking, lamenting how unlucky they were after getting booked, the cops told them to move on or they'd slap them with another $500 fine!

That is damn unlucky about the double line turn around, if only they did the turn into a drive way they would have been fine.

Cops love to bluff people and say all this shit. I love to call my lawyer on the phone while they are there and then just watch them back right down.......good dog, heal!

yeah, 2 nights ago a friend of mine got pulled over... 160 on the F3.
plus he's only on his P's, so he was doing 70 over his limit. copped 6 points and a phenomenal (and terrifying) $2000 fine.
imagine how many better ways that money could be spent.
He was late for a gig in newcastle, which wasn't an excuse the cops appreciated.... I guess he can just be thankful it wasn't tonight he got booked, on double demerits.
but since he was on his P's, he's lost all his points anyway
plus the suspension of lisence

I just heard something on the news the other day. Something about the cops not being able to tell you to move along. A lot of them think its a power they have but it isn't.

hey,
99% sure that on double dermerits you only get double for seat belts and speeding, everything else you get an extra 1 point for the offence. This is wat a cop told us at a driver ed sorta thing for school.

So for those guys that crossed the double lines its 3 points (i think) and then a additional point. So in total 4 points.

yeah, this guy's car was only a few months old,so now he's paying off a car he cant drive.

Technically, the offence they did was "an illegal u-turn", which is 2 points. The cop said they crossed double lines, but that's a different offence, and 3 points. So if they get hit with the 3 point offence, they'll both appeal.

I didn't know there was an extra point for all other offences. that means one of the guys, who has only just got his P's back after having it suspended for 18 months, is down on 1 point

go into the RTA and you can get them to print it off for you but its at a cost and think you have to show your license at the time.

I just came back from Sydney yesterday and I was wondering if anyone in Sydney actually wears seatbelts or not? I saw that many signs and ads about seatbelts. Is there anywhere you can go where they don't have speed cameras and signs about the cops patrolling the area etc.? Also what's the deal with the red P's and green P's?

p.s. Victorian number plates look better Smile they're not yellow.

Forgot to add that Sydney people are suicidal compared to Melbourne. People pull out in front of you and cut you off, the pedestrians must have a death wish as they walk out in front of you and don't even bother looking or waiting for you to go past.

I dunno... only times I've been to melb, I've always had near misses with the drivers down there.

admittedly one of them was a cabbie, so that doesn't really count (as all cabbies are generally as psychotic as each other, and poor drivers to boot)
had some rich idiot in a merc happily change lanes into me, before I jammed on my brakes and horned them.

I indicated to change lanes, then had a combie accelerate to pass me so I coudln't get in...
though admittedly melb drivers are, in general, more placid than sydney drivers

Evil or Very Mad THE POLICE WANT YOUR MONEY! Evil or Very Mad

Mad THE GOVERNMENT WANTS YOUR MONEY! Mad

THAT IS WHY YOU ONLY SEE THEM DURING DOUBLE POINTS WEEKENDS!

IF YOU WANT TO RUIN THE GOVERNEMT, DONT SPEED! THAT WAY THEY GET NO REVENUE, TAKE THE CAMERAS AWAY AND PUT DECENT SPEED LIMITS IN PLACE!

IF EVERYONE DIDNT SPEED, THEN THERE WOULD BE NO FINES, THEREFORE THE GOVERMENT COULDNT AFFORD TO RUN THE FIXED SPEED CAMERAS.

THE GOVERNMENT IS CORRUPT!

THE GOVERNMENT ALLOWS DANGEROUS 4WD INTO SUBURBAN AREAS!

STUPID SPEED LIMITS IN AREAS WHERE THE SPEED LIMIT COULD BE HIGHER.

SPEED CAMERAS ON STRAIGHT PIECES OF ROAD, AND ON DOWN HILL STRETCHES. (E.G F3 FREEWAY)

HERE ARE JUST A FEW EXAMPLES OF CORRUPTION. THINK, BECAUSE THE PUBLIC DONT SAY ANYTHING, THE GOVERNMENT WILL CONTINUE TO SCREW YOU OVER.

WHY DONT THE POLICE FINE PEOPLE FOR:

NOT INDICATING
TAILGATING
DRIVING TOO SLOW I.E OLD FARTS DRIVING UNDER THE POSTED LIMIT
HOGGING THE RIGHT HAND LANE

WHY?

BECAUSE THERES NO MONEY IN THIS, PLUS THIS MEANS THE POLICE HAVE TO PATROL THE ROADS, WHEREAS BY GETTING SPEEDING MOTORISTS, THEY JUST SIT ON THEIR ARSE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.

I HOPE THE POLICE ARE READING THIS.....

Don't get me started on Melbourne drivers, was down there for a week and its shocking they are all rude and will never say thank you for letting them into traffic, never let you into traffic and they have no idea where they are driving, "two lanes heading into the city, two cars driving side by side one another, one car driving right in the middle of the two lanes" and so on the theory on the roads down there is "if the car can fit in that gap *even if its not meant to be there* you can drive there" they are never in the lanes, also i almost got the car side swiped a million times by others and nearly went up the arse of some guy who pulled out right in front of me,

like i said don't get me started on melbourne drivers Evil or Very Mad

I reckon that Qld drivers are somewhat 'bad'... I was on hols there and nearly got run over sooo many times... Like crossing at pedestrian crossings where the cars just don't stop...

Sydney drivers are so shit though... The cut-offs, acco's and that...
It's always like, "Here we are back in Sydney"...

Yeah, that scared the shit out of me...

For everyone, on our way down Mt. Ousley Rd we wen't around a corner and then right infront of us was a tilt tray style tow truck doing a nutter u-turn... He was taking up all three lanes plus a bit of the shoulder... There was apparently an acco a bit back that he must have been going to but I'm sure that there would've been somewhere safer to turn around and I guarantee that his move was illegal...

The long weekend's over. Damn, but at least we can drive less fanatically now. NOt that there are many cops here on the Central Coast.
But how's this for cheating the system. A mate of mine lost his licence for 160 in a 70 zone. Then got a fakey before the RTA kept photo records. He then got a '99 Camry (which flew) and had to sell it to pay yet another speeding fine of which I forget how much. Then he went to court and told the judge he was going into the army (which was true) and that he needed to drive to the gym, because to get in he has to be able to do a certain amount of pushups and pass a physical. The judge said he could have his licence back, but one minor offense would see him losing it for a couple of years. Now his dad has bought him a 2000 WRX evo IV (you know, the yellow ones) and he has since managed to remain uncaight on the F3 at 220kmh racing a GTS Skyline! Apparently it was beautiful though, 'cause the Skyline was limited to 180 and his WRX just kept going and going. Very Happy

The cop was a real w#nker....it was 2.30am, and only two wheels went over the line...the road was totally dead.
