Going synthetic in a 4AGZE

i have recently had a spare smallport head of mine undergo some pretty fullon port work..bigport intake cam..decked head (just a wee bit) new stem seals..etc..yet to put it on..working on the inlet manifold first..BUT i have heard that a good synthetic oil is a good way to go..being a 92-93 engine it was (in theory) designed for newer oils..i was recomended to use castrol formular somthing i can't remember..but it's 10W60..fully synthetic..is this a good idea?

Shell helix ultra (5W40) has never hurt mine. The thin oil when cold helps with a ticking noise that was always present in the head for the first 60 seconds after startup, but it does seem to get out into my catch can a bit easier with the blow-by gasses.

penrite hpr15 is the way to go imo especially in summer when the heat tends to thin out the fully synthetic oils
i know of quite a few people that run hpr15 in their 4a motors and swear by it

Someone try out the "Homebrand" oil at woolies and tell me how it goes after a few thousand k's of hard driving:evil:
It's about the same price as petrol per litre and I think it is made for cars that chew through oil as quick as petrol
I have always used Mobil 1 in my 4AGTE, but will be giving the Penrite HPR15 a go next time as it has been recommended by a few people I know

Actually the homebrand oils are all supplied by fairly large and respectable oil companies (e.g. Castrol, Caltex, Mobil etc.) but are just their bottom of the range mineral oils rebranded.
Although I would only consider using mineral oil in my lawnmower / commodore / X series falcon... i.e. basically any wide tolerance low tech engine.

i use HPR15 in the 4agte as the HPR5 was too thin for my turbo seals... DOH!
