water leak help Mon, 01 November 2004 10:28 Go to next message
Have a water leak from below the thermostat housing, im guessing the gasket is gone but to get a closer look im wondering how to get the damn thing off.

Red arrow indicates the cause of leak, well what its come down too atm

Green arrow is im wondering if this pipe slides out either end ?

Has anyone had any experience at pulling it off or any ideas of how to remove?

i have looked at removing the 2 bolts to the top left but theres still the water pipe connected to it further down, and its very very hard to get on the other side to remove the bolt. Rolling Eyes

Next picture below just shows an expanded view of what im actually talking about.

Any help appreciated. Cool

looks similar to the 3a/4a rwd ones, on those you have to remove the top part aswell as the water pump and the rear facing hose, if thats any help.

If its the same as the 4A, then that pipe will have two o-rings, one at the top and one at the bottom. You'll have to remove the lower housing (take off the hose and get the other bolt out) and then it will pull away. When I did this job on my 4a-c, the reason it was leaking was the top of the pipe had corroded away and the o-ring had collapsed into the hole left by the corrosion. Be prepared to go to toyota looking for a new one. Mine cost $30 and they want $4 each for the o-rings Laughing
I went to clark rubber for those...

Cheers,
Dan
