Ignorance is bliss? Or is it. 4age ONLY CARBI?! Mon, 01 November 2004 12:07 Go to next message
Hey, I was talking to some very braindead sounding chap at a jap import place, and he quoted me 3 and a half thou. on a 4age import carbi. And I said something along the lines of, you fucking rip off, and its carbi! I want an efi 4age. He says they dont exsist, I didnt believe him, but just double checking!

but if the engine has been conveted to carby, it might have had some other work done to it...maybe

but $3.5k is too much - unless it has solid gold cam covers Laughing

Damn it, my post didn't work.

4A-GE is:

4 = Displacement / engine version
A = Engine breed
-
G = Wide angle DOHC, usualy the sports version heads
E = Electronic Fuel Injection

So saying it's a 4A-GE with a carby is actualy incorrect. It's a 4A-G. And no I don't think there ever was a 4A-G from factory. There was however a 4A-F in the AE92 Twincam with the close angle economy head.

I dunno exactly WHY a carby on a 4A-G is a poular mod. Carbies need tuning FAR more regularly (like, they detune themselves, rather than just needing tuning when you change something). They also can't be tuned as precisely (or so I hear). But they are cheaper than a fully programable ECU (and more simple to tune) and the induction noise is Phat apparently.

Edit: Oh and FYI, the C in 4A-C actualy stands for "Californian emissions profile", not carby. I'm pritty sure the carby twincam in the AE92 is a 4A-F, not a 4A-FC.

a 4AFC was the only Twin Cam 4A motor and that had "little" cams on it.. Why the fuck do u want a carbi 4AGC ? less power and more fuel.. just get a 4AGE.. More power not as much fuel!!
The problem with carbi is that small amount of lag u get.. take it from me.. my 21R-C in my celica had that problem

But no better than a tuned quad-throttle combination. The only thing creating the response is the uber short intake. A tuned quad-throttle EFI setup would match this response and beat it around the head with flexibility and power throughout the rev range, even if it only matches peak power.

Once again, I'm prittysure it's not a 4A-FC, it's just a 4A-F.
