Thermostat temperature on a 4AGZE / 4AGTE?? Mon, 01 November 2004 12:56 Go to next message
OK! Finally got the thermostat housing yesterday and it's installed and running today...

But what temperature should the thermostat start opening? The car seems to warm up pretty quick to 70 degree, then slowly raising to 74 then 76, but stays there for a long time, then goes hot, if I take a long cruise without using power, it will drop back down from 86-88 back to 76 and stays there...

I thought Toyota engines have thermostats around 82 or 88 degrees?? I tried looking around and found nothing, only tonnes of 4AGE information, no info on thermostat, but I found this webpage selling TRD 71 degree thermostat?!?! http://www.fensport.co.uk/partsfiles/ae82tuning.ht m Why 71 degrees? Long shot from the 88 degrees? So what is wrong?? What is the correct / best temperature for the rings & seals of the 4AGZE / 4AGTE to run???

Also does anyone know how does the TVSV (Thermal Vacuum Switching Valve) works???

Hey! I've just found this website...

https://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/mak%2CTOYOTA%2C1988 %2CMR2%
2C1276792%2C1.6L+1587cc+L4+MFI+Supercharged+%28A%2 9+[4AGZE]

they have 192 degrees Fahrenheit (88.9 degrees Celsius) and 180F (82.2C)

so what's the go with the 71 degrees Celsius TRD thermostat???

And what is happening with my thermostat? Do the (thermostat) start to open earlier as they get older???
