5 Speed Conversion (what do I need) Wed, 03 November 2004 05:17 Go to next message
Howdy, upon finding out that a W57 is found in an RA60 celica my plans to convert the soarer to five speed have been brought forward significantly.

Right i would just like to know exactly what i need to convert the 1GGTE to 5 Speed as i might as well start looking for the parts.

I know for sure i need these things:

W57 or W55 (obviously Rolling Eyes)
1G Series Bellhousing
1G Series Clutch (To be modified)
1G Series Flywheel (Can i use one off a more common motor? i.e. 7M?)
Clutch Pedal
Modified Brake Pedal
W57 Slave Cylinder
RA60 Master Cylinder
Get Tailshaft Modified

Right so what else do i need to use and can i use some other parts to maybe keep costs down, if anyone can think of cheaper options for the list I already have please let me know.

Cheers
Very Happy

No.

RA60 Master Cylinder

Won't work on a GZ20. You need a master cylinder from a xZ2x Soarer or a xA7x Supra.

Ummm, $200-$300ish

But he did sometihng wierd to it, like convert it from metric to imperial (sized tubing) because that is all he could get.
So extra machining was done.
Or something like that

Around that figure though

hmmm ok, it looks like that might be the most expensive part, oh well, saving $350 on the gearbox is a start i suppose Smile

I am assuming all the hard to get bits can be bought directly from toyota?

Yeah, when you trade in your first born.

Best bet is to find a Manual xA70.
That will have all the lines, cyls, pedals.

Im not worried about the pedals and shit they are easy to come by its more the flywheel, spigot bearing, thrust bearing, clutch that could be uber hard to find, having a mate in spare parts helps as i get trade and staff discount, my last timing belt only cost me $32 Very Happy

Flywheel shouldn't be too hard
Spigot bearing can be gotten anywhere for $5
Thrust bearing should come with a clutch kit.
Dont get a clutch until you have the flywheel, and then take it somewhere and get them to match a decent clutch to it (ie 800kg+)

So do it already

Flywheel from a 3T GTE can fit - I think that it does take a clutch plate that is 1/4" smaller in diameter than some 1G's.

Incidentally I have a brand new 9 1/4" Exedy Daikin HD pressure plate up for grabs.

PM me for details (I also have a bell housing for 1G).

edit/I can organise having the clutch fitted to a flywheel (one of which can be sourced from a T18 and be modified to suit the pressure plate.
