ae92 (cs) gearbox problems Thu, 04 November 2004 04:10 Go to next message
hi everybody,
got some issues with my gear box. when i downshift, the gearbox make a whining noise as it goes down past about 2000rpm. the sound only happens at about 2000, not higher or lower. the porblem is getting worse, like it happens when i take my foot of the accelerator to let the car roll in gear, if the revs are around 2000, the noise happens again.

crunches a little bit when downshifting to 2nd, and 4th gear has been known to pop out straight after i shift up to it.

the whining has always happened but got worse after a little maccas trays event, i didnt rev it that hard.

the only thing i can think of (i know sfa) is that maybe it is low on gearbox oil???? if so, how do i fill it up in an ae92. or should itake it to a mechanic.

i just dont trust them an afwul lot to tell me the truth.

ALSO, if the gearbox does need to be replaced, how much sould i pay? i dont want to get ripped off, so how much would be
reasonable?

thanks
Will

do you mean it pops out of gear? that might be coz of loose gearbox mounts or something...otherwise the syncros are starting to go
