New Tassy Vehicle Impounding Laws

Well, looks like they have impounded about 9 cars in Hobart since the new laws came in last week. RX7, and a standard pulsating pulsar being the latest that i've seen in the lock up down here. I talked to one of the Garage cops and said with a hint of sarcasm " geez, that pulsar must have been doing a big burn out to get impounded", to which he replied, dangerous driving.
Apparently they can impound your car for dangerous driving, loss of traction and also a too loud stereo. First time it's 2 days, Second time it's 2 or 3 months (I can't remember) and then on the third time it goes to Auction, where you have the honourable chance of buying your car back.
I reckon it's pretty fucked. I haven't been booked in a long time but I can see some younger dudes getting stripped of their cars within a year!
Are these laws the same roughly as the NSW ones? Anyone had their car impounded?
I noticed that they put a big sticker over each opening to the car, (boot, doors, and even bonnet), complete with owner's name and time of offence etc. I guess it's because the vehicle isn't a crime scene, so it stops people getting into the car before you pick it back up ( If you do!)
Cheers to the police! not

LOL well as Mookie also knows. i sat on the brake in my RA60 for 2 minutes and caused so much smoke the tasman bridge was covered in it.. that is how they saw it. I was under the Tasman bridge at that shitty car park. (BTW thanks to Daffy for lending me the "Chesse Cutter's" from his Dato Sunny Wagon)
But i only got an $80 fine.. no points!!
BTW the cops name was Countsable Chesseman!!

na i reeckon u should be ok, just don't try to b a commodore/falcon bogan and u should be right. I was talking to a copper one time for getting pulled up and they where saying they target done-up cars but only cause the people driving them try to attract attention with loud sound systems or driving faster than they should

Dam, hopefully my car dosn't end up there one day. Swear i'll do something to the cops if they do. And i reckon people drive faster than they should becuase they love to drive fast not becuase they're trying to attract attention, well thats me anyways. Hey muaythaiman, how do u get to see all the cars in lock-up?

All the cars. Crashed, stolen, used in burgs, repossessed etc.
Most of them are either fucked (crashed and being examined), fucked cars that were used in burgs (pieces of shit to start with).
There was a '73 TA22 up there for the last few weeks, and the body actually wasn't that bad. Would have been a good project to strip back and paint etc. I asked the guy who takes care of all the cars what the deal was with it, and basically they couldn't find the registered owner. (it had been used in a burg)
He ended up giving it to the firies. If it had gone to a wreckers like most of them, they would have got about $150 for it. He wouldn't sell it to me as it would have been a conflict of interest.

Has to go to a wreckers apparently. Can't sell to individuals. And they have a list of local wreckers they can only use. Some of the dodgy ones weren't on the list!

that law is in line with Qld has been in force here for over a year, and i have the "honour" of saying that when it first came in the cops went nuts, and took my car( at the time modded sw20) but they have cooled down with the law now. you have to be doing something pretty silly for them to confiscate the car from you now......
BTW when they take the car they actually have to charge you with something, and i was charged with "illegal speed trial" on a public road. i argued they charge in court, ended up having to have 5 court appearances, and even the magistrate said that in the circumstances she didnt think i could have been racing in the location indicated( which i was not doing) but they found me guilty anyway, because she said i should have been more responsible. Go figure......... $750 fine with no loss of points. work that one out.....
