bolt-on wheel hub PCD changers Sat, 06 November 2004 14:50 Go to next message
I remember someone talking about these before, but I cant for the life of me find the thread (may be on the old forums)

Can anyone give me *accurate* info about these? reliability, legality, etc?

as I see it, they're a great way to make my 4 stud supra into a 5 stud supra, and at the same time take the offset out to +35, so wheels are much easier to come by.

My main concern is.... what will happen come brake upgrade time?

any experience/knowledge appreciated

I'm using them, but they are not 4 to 5 bolt but rather the same pcd 4 bolt. Basically used to change offsets on my car.

I've also seen custom hubs made for AE86's - taking the offset up by 25mm, changing bolt pattern, making room for big brakes and looking a lot more stock/legal. Just gotta sacrifice the deep dish look. No idea on price or availability off-the-shelf.

I've been told that these may be both legal or illigal. Can anyone give any further info on this?

[EDIT] Found a place that does these adapters for $300, supplied and fitted.

Well, bad news. These adapters are 100% illigal in NSW. Crying or Very Sad

My concern is not being defected for them.

My concern is having a massive car accident, after which all cars involved are thoroughly inspected. If I happen to be the driver at fault, I'm screwed.

Even if you weren't the driver at fault, you'd still be screwed.

i bought my car with pcd and offset spacers.

allows me to run 5:100 pcd instead of 5:114.3, spacers themselves are at least 10mm thick.

they look like a very budget production and im making an effort to get rid of them as i think they are illegal and a safety hazzard.

might get some pics up when i get the wheels off if anybody is interested.

Spacers in WA are 100% illegal.

I've talked to many DPI people about it, none even began to bend when I tried to explain that they pose no safety risk if the engineer passes it.

ive got 5mm spacers on my rotors - but they are integrated spacers - not bolt on front - and 100% legal according to my engineer ..

they arent bolt on in front - but from behind - using threads into the rotor itself ..

Not 100% on why these are legal but i can re ask

I would tend to believe my engineer more than the RTA technical advise line or defect happy police officers.

I recall one conversation with an RTA tech dude where I had to explain to him what a mcpherson strut was and how a strut tower brace worked... the little faith I had in the RTA vanished after that!

Oh, so would I, but the RTA (or DPI in my case) can override the engineer.

Gotta love Australia's road laws... it is insane that modifications are illegal until proven otherwise and that even if proof is given by a qualified engineer some paper pushing high school dropout can override the engineers decision.

Yep, its dumb as.

But he made it quite clear to me, thateven if he passes something, the DPI can say no to it, and I have no comeback.
He even said I could try take him to court if I so choose, but I would lose.
