go to a retailer, like a fibreglass workshop, places that repair boats. the stuff you get in the kits may not be suitable, as it tends to be heavy csm for patch work. also who knows how old the shit is.
go and speak to a pro and sort out what glass you need and buy enough resin/hardener/gel coat to suit.

When I lived in QLD I just went to the place that make the Hayden surf ski's, they would give me about 600 ML of resin hardner and let me grab some matting off-cuts for 10 bucks. way better than buying it from a hardware store.
Try to find a boat/surfboard place. (help's if you're on the coast I guess...)

awesome.
wouldnt be too hard to shape it out of MDF or Urethane foam then glass it. (MDF being the cheaper option).

i built one of those a few yrs ago
cost me about $10
i just used a bodyboard and mouted my plane engine in a aluminium tube with 2 rudders on the back.
awesome fun (until it stalled in the middle of the creek)
