doesn't have a return line? How can that be? I thought every fuel system had to have a return line?
are they both internal fuel pumps?

I assume the 1JZ you are using uses a regular pressure regulator to control the fuel pressure. If this is the case then you will have to install a fuel return line for the fuel rail outlet otherwise yes the pump will work with no return however you will quickly end up with an engine bay drenched in fuel.

yeah the 1jz has a FPR on the end of the stock fuel rail.
from there, there are two pipes. One little one that goes into plenum and the other one is a larger one which will connect to a metal pipe that is bolted to the side of the plenum. Then you should run fuel hose to fuel lines and back to the tank.
That is how mine is anyway. Good luck.

I assume you'll need to run a new line from the pressure regulator to the tank.

if there is no return line then the fuel pump is controlled to regulate the pressure, rather than going full nut and the pressure reg regulating the pressure.

I wonder how they get around vapour lock if the fuel isn't constantly circulating?

Hmm, I have no idea what you guys are talking about hahaha, but the car just started (Finallly!!! over 6 months) surprisingly, it started first go, and idles good with the stock IS200 ECU, but fuel waas pissing out from the fuel rail, wwe are going to block the return, hopefully, this is all we have to do!
Cheers

Returnless fuel rail. pump regulates pressure so there is no need for pressure reg.
normal setup requires a pressure reg and a return line to regulate the pressure..
fuel pissing out? sounds very very scary...

ahh, thanks oldcorolla,
So, how can we over come this? do we need to run another fuel return line? I would think so.

Wasn't that question already answered?
And yes, very scary you started it up with the FPR outlet pissing all over your engine bay. Not so smart.

Block off the return on the fuel rail.
However, before you do any full boost runs, make sure the fuel pressure with the IS200 fuel pump and intrinsic regulator is adequate.
If not you might possibly consider IS/GS300 or LS430 fuel pump (one with an intrinsic regulator - you'll want to check that flow/pressure are adequate under boost conditions).
Or ultimately you may need to run a return line with the stock FPR and a non regulated fuel pump.

My IS200 has a 2nd line but it is not used for fuel return. It is used to draw the vapour from the tank. It connects to the inlet just under the throttle valve body.
At the moment I have the return line connected to it but haven't run the pump to make sure it can be used for return of the fuel.
Let me know how yours go without the return line - I may have to disconnect it yet.

Graham, does your VVTi 1JZGTE fuel rail have a return? My VVTi 2JZGE doesn't, but the motor came from a late GS300 with an in-tank fuel pressure regulator.

yeah, as Gianttomato asked, are you talking about the 1GFE or the 1JZGTE?
