Hi everyone,

Perhaps a dumb question, but how can the idle speed, cold and hot be adjusted on an 86kW 4AGE Twin Cam...?

Have mucked around a bit but cant find anything obvious, so i thought i would ask before getting dirtier with it...

Thanks

My AE82 Corolla Seca has that same engine.
The adjustment point is on the throttle body, and is called the throttle stop, it is located just below the bellcrank/pulley through which the throttle cable runs, you may have to back off a lock nut before you turn the screw, dont forget to lock it back up again.

Haven't they got an idle adjustment on the throttle body so you don't upset your TPS setting buy adjusting the throttle stop.

Yeah ok...

i saw the screw you speak of..

i thought it was the throttle positioner, i had to back it of a bit anyway as it was a bit much (holding the revs a bit too long) but i am still at a loss as to the idle adjustment... it needs to be done 1200rpm hot and 2200rpm cold is a bit excessive and somewhat annoying with a VERY loud exhaust...

thanks for your help but

I was talking about the screw attached to the vacumn actuator visible below the throttle cable half-pulley.

I dont have the screw you have circled?? although i have the map sensor.

Also the vac hose ontop of the throttle body... in the second pic, the lower of the 2 small vac hoses ontop fo the throttle body... what does that run to, mine had a plug on that outlet, and i then used it for the vacumn actuator in the after market cruise control i put in... what should it go to??

Thanks guys.

I think its called a solenoid, or some thing like that, I'm not really sure but here's a better photo.
