Got some of that info ..

(From the 16v manual)
- Free height 41.09mm
- Installed length 34.7mm
- Installed load 15.8kg, limit 14.6kg
- Squareness limit 1.8mm

I can measure up the OD of the springs tomorrow for you, but at a guess I'd ay about 25mm.

The stock lift of most of the 4AGE cams is between 7.1mm - 7.5mm

For the 20v info, look here for the manual - http://www.onthenet.com.au/~paulp/Blacktop/

I measured them up tonight, and the 16v ones are 23.5mm diameter. I have some 20v ones lying around but I can't find them, sorry. I'd guess somewhere between 19mm - 20mm for them though.

sweet Smile

23.5mm is what im after (same free heigh too Smile )

another question then...

are there any readily available performance 16v 4age springs with significantly higher installed tension, to accomodate up to say 11mm lift? who from, how much? what kind of spring rates are available (if any) for the 4age...or is it custom winding all the way?

cheers
ed

I'm using Performance Springs springs in my engine, and they're good for about 0.420" lift, or just under 11mm.
I'm running 38 pounds on the seat and it revs to 8600rpm no problems at all.
I got them from Kelford Cam on the Gold Coast.

All off the shelf stuff. I can't remember the cost but I thought it was pretty good at the time.

sounds like i might have to give them a ring.

you were saying that they are only 38lbs installed? that is rather light i would have thought... you rev it out to 8600 but have no problems... running what lift? what buckets are you using? SUB i assume?

im only looking at a redline of ~7600 and stock 7m springs (same dimensional spec) are about 35lb (6500 redline)... was hoping to go a little heavier than 38lbs on the upgrade. any thoughts?

cheers

I chose 38 pounds as that's all I reckoned I needed.
I'll still be using that for hte next engine, which will have 33mm inlet valves and run to 9600rpm. Wink

The cams I'm using now are ~0.380" lift.

ok, thanks bill...

im looking in the realm of ~0.400" and 7600-7800rpm

the 38lbs could be ok i think on the exhaust side which is only running ~27mm valves. think i might go a little heavier (+45lbs?) on the intake side w/ 32mm valves.

grega: whats the story with the springs youve got there? they might be the perfect addition for the exhaust cam/valves, then i only have to buy new springs for the intake side...

cheers

Re: 4A-GE 16v/20v Valve Springs... Sat, 12 October 2002 10:22 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Those pressures should work fine, though it also depends on the opening & closing rates of the cam. The lift is no big deal, but if the cam has a small duration then the ramps are pretty savage and so the acceleration rates up & down may exceed what the spring can handle, on the other hand, if the cam has lots of duration with that lift, the ramps will be a lot easier on the springs and so they'll take it no probs.

Glad I could help ..... Smile

That's only a little bigger than mine, so it should be fine.
