approx cost of AE86 respray

I am looking at getting a new paint job done on my AE86 but don't really know how much i'm looking at.
i would be looking at:
exterior only, not going to do interior or engine bay.
getting the patches of rust here and there fixed up.
is 2 pac or acrylic better? in terms or durability, cost and shine....
i was thinking for the entire job i would be looking at $2500-$3500, is this about right?
any places in sydney that you guys would recommend?
Thanks
Richard

How much rust have you got?
2 pac is more durable but because of this if it is scratched or chipped it's harder to to a good reapir job. Its also more expensive.
$2500 - $3500 should give you a OK job in Acrylic.

has anyone sand down their car, fill them up by themselves...and take them to paint shop to get them resprayed or probably primed by them as well??
just curious to know the price difference with preparing by myself but only let them respray it

The prep work is 70%, painting is easy, the better the prep work the better the finish, 2 pak is dear compaired to Acrylic buts is a lot more durable

This is what I'm planning to do too.
So if the car was rubbed back/repaired then given to the shop to be primed and sprayed, it should be a lot cheaper right? I mean, for the actual paint finish to be really good, the final rub on the primer should be the dictating factor on that right?

yup..that's right...
what i am curious is...how much is primering and spraying alone?
or just spray without primer..
sanding the exterior is a no pain..but frame doors and all the interior part gonna be very painful since alot of curves and stuff..
anyone know spraying cost for acrylic and 2pac?

$3,000 was enough for my respray, drive-in drive-out, nothing else to do.
Guess I was lucky in that my car had little rust ...

any painted worth their salt wont generally accept paint ONLY jobs... since 99% of the car's finish is acctualy how well the prep work is. Meaning if you make the prep look crap, its going to show through the paint.
whos gonna get the blame for a shit spray job?? The painter!
just do it yourself... aint that hard

I paid for an airgun and compressor and am doin the restoration myself. Main reason I bought my sprinter was so I could learn how to panelbeat/restore/paint. I guess how much you pay for the paint job should reflect how you wanna treat the car. No point painting the car for 3 grand if you wanna pretend to be takumi and learn to parellel park thru a tree trunk

i repaired,hi-filled and rubbed my 86 back then got it painted by jim rooke smash repairs in wollongong and it only cost $500 and a case of beer and that was engine bay, inside doors, hatch, under bonnet and all the exterior, but i supplied the 2pack paint and clear because my old boy knows a guy that works for a paint company so yeah i got the paint cheap as..
but the paintjob on it is immacculate with only one pin dent i must of missed when prepping the car but you can hardly notice it.
i would of painted it my self as painting is the easy bit but i never had access to a booth.
cheers

yeah, i was originally going to do most of the prepping myself but i recently discovered some more little patches of rust around the place, mainly boot and door seals, i don't really have the time to fix it up myself. There a few dings here and there that i don't have the skill to remove.
so yeah, i think i might just get them to do it all....
so with little rust patches around the place and a few dings to remove i'll be looking at about $3000?
i've been throwing the car around a bit latley but if i spend 3 gramd on paint i'm sure as shit going to look after it!
