Which gearbox & diff in Coronas?

Hey all,
I have been told that half of the 5-speed Corona's of the 1983-1987 range are fitted with Supra gearboxes.
Which series of Supra/Celica gearbox is fitted to the Corona, and how much power can it handle?
How can I tell if it is a Supra gearbox?
Are the standard diffs strong enough to handle the power a 1GGTE will put out? What are the specs?
Thanks,
Alex

Good question. The old boy has a CSI corona. Would be nice if it had a W58 box. One night that he is'nt there just swap it for my W55. I'd say that it could have a W50 or W55. As for diff I have no idea cause the diff numbers are'nt stamped on the car.

If your Corona has no diff number, that's because it has a Borg-Warner rear end in it and probably a BW 4-speed as well.
AFAIK late-model Corona 5-speeds are W55 or W57 boxes; I'd be surprised if they had an actual Supra box, but you never know!

Hey,
The diff has some words written on the underside of it.
I can't quite them out from the picture, but it appears to read:
IDEFT or something, and to the right of that, there is an X with some long stripes coming out of it. There is some text between the stripes.
Unfortunately that is the best I can do. What is it?

No, the Corona boxes are not Supra, they are an all alloy box, not as strong as the Supra box with steel sandwich plate, and stronger input shaft, however they are still a good box for moderate power levels.
