gtech installation Wed, 10 November 2004 08:53 Go to next message
has anyone tried to permenantly mount their gtech pro,

i hate having it stuck up on the windshield and was considering moutning it permently.

two things ive thought of that may need to be considered

1) needs to be able to be tilted to enter weight of vehicle,

2) isolated from vibration ?

i was thknking of mounting it in the centre console under the stereo just wanted to see if anyone else has had any success with this sort of setup ?

I am thinking you could use the tiltable mounting bit from a gauge pod, and screw it somewhere on the dash via a suitably firm piece of rubber

well i was thinking making up a bracket with a pivot on each end with rubber grommets between the unit and the bracket,

the bolts between the unit and the bracket would be tight enouhg to hold it but loose enought to pivot it as nessecary.

any one tried this as fasr as vibration problems and what not..

oh and its the ye olde gtech pro model. (similar in size to a turbo timer)

it needs to be mountd on the centre of the windshield or it aint accurate... mine is permanently sittin there just leave the suction thing there and zip tie the gtech to it cauz that sticky shit comes off in the heat wen the car sits in the sun

it would still be mounted on the centre line of the vehicle, regardless reasing the manual it seems more like inaccuracies from not being on the centre of the windscreen are more caused by the curvature of the windscreen then anything else

Why would you bother?

Its not like you use it every day.

i want to mount it into the mr2,

partly as i dont like the look of it sitting up on the winsdhiled, but also when its plugged into the lighter socket it sometimes wont power up or cuts out, im guessing it just dosne tlike the connection somwhere. its exactly the same in the celica. but every other car it works fine. all other accessories work fine in the socket so its not a loose wire to the socket or blown fuse.
