what have other people done regarding putting in rear speakers in an MA61???
as the stock speaker mounts have angled bolt holes, how did you go with after market speakers????
thanks for any responses.

I'm guessing the standard bits are near the glass? Coz I had alpines 6x9 3ways when I got my car and they were mounted right over the passeger armrests.

i dont have that kind of intimate relationship with her yet..
ive got more of a "shut up bitch and do wtf i say" relationship with her than a sensitive new age guy approach
(thus the reason i ripped out every panel & seat & carpet to be retrimmed )

Don't bother with 6x9" speakers. Get yourself some GOOD front speakers, a decent sub and if you really must get some 4" or 6x4" speakers for rear fill.
Remember, sub doesn't always mean doosh.

when ive finished my interior ill be doing my boot carpet and cutting a foam template to build a boot fitted (pine) sub box to hold two 12 inches in a ma61. if anyone wants these boxes made up (one ive done them) lemme know and i'll work out a price for materials and build, etc..etc.. im designing it specifically with clearance for a rear strut tower brace in mind

Dude, 350watt 6x9's are fine without a sub. I went or a ride in a mates car and he had 450watt 6x9's and i swear there was a sub hiding somewhere, but there wasnt!! And also done the MA61 Celica's have a Rear parcel shelf thingy that kind of acts like a top for the boot, you know what im talking about, like in the RA60 liftbacks, couldn't ya just mount them in that?

I didn't say that. What I did say is you wouldn't bother to have both. Having listened to both setups though, a decent front stage with some 6" splits and a sub does sound better.

Dunno about you, but in my RA60, that cover over the boot is a retractable plastic thing. I've seen people fabricate MDF panels and mount speakers in them, but that is far from practical.

Interesting? Think about it
Where do you sit? Which are the only speakers that you can have pointed at you? Which are the ones that produce the majority of the sound you hear?
Add that to the fact that bass is non-directional, and its pretty good

the factory rear speakers are NOT 4x6"
i bought some VDO 4x6's for the rear, but they were too small for the bracket, so i chucked em in the doors
i have found that 2 decent fronts and my 12" sub powered via headunit works really nicely (provided you are in the front). i never intend for people to sit in the back anyway

Lol, ya love your supra dont ya! Don't ya! Don't blame ya...
I've grown acustomed to having speakers in the rear and love the throw around of the music from side to side but i've never really pondered the front speakers much before and i think i might just upgrade them in my next car

Sub is good. 6x9's at the rear is good. Now I need good speakers for the front and a nice amp powering them. And it will be perfect.

well my 6x9's are in boxes in the back and they pump as is.. i mean for 6x9's they are ok. But maybe a nice 700watt 12" would give it that little extra poke that it needs.

Hmmm tough choice!
The 6x4's or 6x9's could be a much more stealth install, but then again so could the sub if you cut up the boot floor a little! Who needs a spare tyre anyway.
Yes, I don't want a big box in my boot

na i ain't putting a big box in, and bloody hell u need a spare tyre. i don't wanna b stuck in the middle of a housing commision area at 2 in the morning.. i would be more worried for my cars safety. I mean those bogans leave home made spike strips just to fuck u around

I figure I never drive through dodgy areas (I avoid them, full of bogans, they smell bad) and if my tyre does actually explode or something i'll be fucked anyway. One of those "get me home" tyre filler cans will be enough to repair any puncture I get just driving around anyway.
Just stay away from the bogans and you'll be right!

I've got a single 12". I don't find it overpowering at all, and I know I could improve on its setup, but I'm lazy. The next car will be receiving another 12" for this very reason.
