camry 95 project idea Wed, 10 November 2004 10:45 Go to next message
hey

im pondering on either selling my car or making a real nice 4 door but im not really sure on my options for a bit of mumbo, i know i ca import a 5sfe turbo kit from the states but im not sure if it would cost the same as a 3sgte conversion.idealy with no $$$ limitations id love to make it rear wheel drive and run a 2jz or something but i dont have a spare 100,000 bucks lol

also anyone know the max offset and width you can have on rims on these things , i think 18's is the max size

I managed to fit 18" by 8" wide with +44mm offset onto the Vienta of the same shape. Barely cleared the shocks, but never rubbed.

By the time you buy and import a 5SFE trd turbo kit from the US you could have bought and fitted a better set-up locally, so I would not bother doing that. A 3S-GTE is more cost effective again and a relatively straight forward install. You could be different and fit a (supercharged) 3.0l V6 1MZ engine from a Vienta, being a std Camry motor you should have no worries getting it passed.
As far as I know, Aust. licencing centres don't like cars converted from FWD to Rear WD and vice versa. Get approval in principle before you start going down this road.

i didnt think TRD make a 5sfe turbo kit Confused

i know that in terms of the 5sfe, you can buy a RippMods supercharger, a Burien turbo kit, and if you have some time you can wait for ShiftgatePerformance to finish their turbo kit. a 3sgte will fit in the engine however you will have issues regarding the engine mounts. if you are serious about doing a 3sgte swap, then i can put you onto someone who makes custom mounts for the 3sgte into gen3 camry conversion. your other option is to turbocharge the 5sfe (which a few mr2 owners have done).

the other thing you can do, but will cost shitloads is do a 5s-gte conversion. PM me if you want to know more and i'll send you a link...

cheers

I don't think you can use the TRD supercharger for the v6 on RHD models, the brake master cylinder and/or clutch master are possibly in the way.

I've been trying to get an answer to this, but no one will help.

Yes, its the Burien kit I was thinking of. I was confusing that with the supercharger kit TRD USA make for the V6 Camry and similar engined Hilux.

you shouldn't have issues with engine mounts provided you use the celica engine and hold onto your 5s brackets, not the mr2 engine which has different bracketry.
Your flywheel will be different so the clutch needs to be a modified unit... any clutch mob with half a brain will know what to do but if unsure contact carters brake and clutch in East Maitland NSW they'll tell you what you need. Everything in the sv21 bolts up real nice, not too sure about the wide body, speak to craig from nova auto, he's done the widebody and said it was a piece of piss. went well too.

Good luck with it all,
Regards,
Chris.

Yes, Skyline wheels are 114.3 x 5. My Vienta had Skyline/200SX rims on it. You won't have any problems.

for the manifold your looking between $600 and $1000, but most probably around the $750 mark.
