4agte oil cooler intstall Wed, 10 November 2004 12:26 Go to next message
heya guys, the time has come to fit the oil cooler i have had lying around for 6 months. So all you 4agte guys, i have a standard 4age oil cooler+sandwich plate and lines, whats the best way to set it up???
ps. would a bigger oil cooler be better due to the turbo factor???
thanks in advance!
Justin

ummm just slap it on like you would any ge? it aint hard. i dont think a bigger cooler would be needed. gze never even came with one as opposed to a ge which is strange. fair enough a gte is gonna make the oil hotter, but i have seen many without any oil cooling.
i also have the stock ge cooler setup.

Fitting a larger cooler than standard may not achieve much, as i'm 99% sure that the 4AGE oil cooler setup only cools the BYPASS oil from the pump relief, which would normally drain back to the sump otherwise. Therefore it is not a great volume that is passing through the core compared to a full-flow cooler system (like via an aftermarket remote system)

Its definately worth fitting what you have though, as a hard working GTE is pretty harsh on your oil. I have considered a larger capacity sump too, but I guess regular (max 5000km) oil changes should get rid of the oil before its too cooked Cool

Cheers
Phil
