My mate has just blow the motor in his RA65
I'm not sure what motor they have is it the 22re ?
is it worth replacing it with the same motor? are there any easy conversion choices ?
how much will a new (read=2nd) motor cost ?
any help would be great as i can't get the car at the moment and he was quoted $2000 for a new motor .
The whole car only cost $1900
Thanks mookie

Yes 22R-E. The cheapest and easiest option is to buy another 22R-E, and I'm sure you can get one for a lot less than $2k if you shop around. The 22R was sold from the early 80's to the late 90's so there is a huge variation in prices; if you get an early one it they can be had quite cheap.
As for engine conversions, there are plenty of options but if he shies away from a $2k pricetag he will faint at the cost of even a basic engine conversion!

Hey thanks for the info .
It wasn;t the money that was the problem it's just a 22re isn't that much of a high performance weapon is it ?
so we thought 2 grand was a bit of a shit price for an average motor.
If we found a non EFI motor could we chuck it in till we work out what we really want to or would the gauges and everything else not work ?
Thanks mookie

for a carby motor you are gonna need a low pressure fuel supply, so unless you have a spare ra60/sa63 tank.. then its prolly not worth it.
as far as easy conversions go, 1g or 4a imho are prolly easiest, anything more than that will probably require more creative engineering... there just isn't a perfect drop in motor for our celicas
cheers,
James

18R-GEU is probably the next easiest option, if you can find a good one with ECU and wiring loom, but they're getting hard to find these days. If you have the $$$ a 1G conversion is the way to go, well documented and proven results.

4a into an RA6X? I don't think I've seen that one done before. Do you have any pics? I like the idea of a supercharged Celica.

Probably go the 1g-gze then. Rather than a 4a-gze if thats what you were getting at.

Well i do have a SA63 tank sitting at my house .
But the carby motor would only be a temperary thing.
I wouldn't think the 4a would have enough power ?
I recon by the looks of things he wil stick to the 22re as i'm putting a 1ggte in my SA63 he won't want to copy me .
Altho it would be good for me then we could test things on his car lol.
Is there anything we could do to the 22re whileit's out of the car to gain a little bit more power ?

Any 4A motor in an xA6X platform will be hideously underpowered, and over stressed! A replacement 22RE is his easiest option, I have a good one will catch you on MSN.

I find it funny how so many of you believe a 4age is underpowered for any A6x celica...
I am tempted to do the conversion just to prove a point...
also, i think i shall post pics of the AA63 from Japan, factory installed 1st gen 4ag in celicas.

what r u talking about ?
i meant if we both did 1G conversions then we could test out things that could damage either the motor or the car in his RA65 instead if my SA63.
so my shit doesn't get busted
