Friend has a factory 20V AE101 Levin GT Apex
On throttle back-off and at lights, now and then idle will drop, then pick back up. Sometimes it will eve stall. The car is auto if that makes a difference.
Throttle Position Sensor has been adjusted to no avail.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Chris

If your auto has a torque convertor with lockup.
Have it checked, to see that it is disengaging at appropriate times.

My AE82 20v has this problem too - especially when there is a fair electrical load on the engine like headlights. Never found a solution to the problem though, may have something to do with the quad throttle bodies perhaps?

Hi
I drive 90 model celica with 98 model 3SGE in it and I had exactly the same problem. It just got worst when I wash the engine then we find out it was the one of the spark plug lead now no hoping when u idle.
I didn't even put the original leads. Just put cheap ones to try to find out is that the problem or not I'm almost %100 sure that's what it is.
Good luck.

I'd been chasing exactly the smae problem with my ZE for the past 6 months, eventually I fitted a new oxygen sensor and reset the ECU and all is well (touch wood).

Hi,
this is lucky Phill. Just disconnect the battery for 5 minutes that will reset ever thing (computer ecu etc) but technically u can't reset ECU because it`s purpose is processing information nothing to reset there. U can only reset the computer.

In my car, there is a 7.5 Amp fuse labelled AM2 (I think), you just need to pull it out for about a minute or so. That way you don't loose the stereo, have to reset the alarm etc...

I remember there is a device or valve that will bypass some air across the throttle body in case the throttle is closed abruptly, this "thing" is designed specially for automatic transmission because in manual, the engine will continue to be "pulled" by the inertia of the car, so the engine usually won't stall, whereas the torque converter will disconnect the engine as soon as the throttle is off.. that device may be the thing to check, but I forgot the actual name of this device, hope someone else on the forum can remember..

just remembered as well, the function of the valve is to "slowly" cutoff the air intake so the fuel mixture won't "choke" the engine, hope someone know what's the device is, do some search on the internet and see what you can find...
