Seriously dude, if you don't actually own the car. Don't give yourself the hassles. Find a manual car in the first place.

Heh heh. I used to think doing conversion like this was a good idea. Then I realised that it's always cheaper and less of a nightmare to just pay the extra for a version of the car with the manual box/LSD/turbocharger already on there.
I don't think there is much point in modifying a car unless you are going to change it to something that you CAN'T get factory (or your a mechanic with lots of spare time who can source cheap parts).

agreed with all of the above.
the price difference between an auto and a manual is much less than sourcing the parts (considering you're lookig at several grand worth of gbox to start with, before looking at anything else)

I thought about doin that to my 94 aerotop....until I priced it out.
You are looking at anywhere up to about $5000-$6000 just for the gearbox alone (the 6sp getrag boxes are not cheap).
If you *really* want a manual, and have found the car you *really* want my advice would be to do a 5sp conversion - they are much cheaper (but still damn expensive!) than the 6speed's.
But, like it or not what everyone else has said is spot on the money - its much cheaper and far less hassle starting with the car you want (supra's especially!)

Hrm I see, prospects arent lookin to good then. I wanted to convert becasue i want an aerotop supra and as u are all aware, rare to find in manUAL Would love a 6spd getrag box in a tt aerotop, I think my life would be complete then. A question for u guys with the tt supras, how are they fuel wise? how much u find yaselves spending on fuel and how much driving do u do? and insurance, i know its going to kill me but how much do u guys pay, under 25 btw.
Thanks All

And there's a reason for that... the body flexes like a mofo. The solution is simple: buy a TT 6-speed with a proper roof. If you want to be a topless poser, buy an MX5.

This is the funniest thread I've seen in ages!
But yes, having been there, done that... don't do a manual conversion! Buy a Supra with a lid and a manual box and you'll be set.
You can't insure the car, you're kidding yourself. And if you do insure it, you probably lied to the insurance company to get it, so they won't pay your claim
