I have just found this malaysian guys website and he has tried to make an AFM to MAP conversion for the 20V silvertop
http://www.my-acoustic.com/Car/AFM/Replace_AFM_by_ MAP.htm
http://www.my-acoustic.com/Car/AFM/afm_to_map_2.ht m

The engine idles and will rev up and down but not hold partial throttle (closed loop?)

He seems as though he is very close to getting it to work. Anyone have any ideas? I would love for there to be a way to do this!!!!

I had a look at this a while ago, and it seems like an interesting idea, but I think it will never work quite properly.

Firstly you also need to know engine speed, not just manifold pressure (8000rpm and 10psi of vacuum will need more fuel than 1000rpm and 10psi of vacuum). And also, I'd see it as only being a cheap bandaid fix. Given that AFR should be very tightly controlled you you can make good power, good emissions and avoid pinging I think this whole approach is just too dodgy.

You could possibly take RPM and MAP and use a lookup table to give an equivalent airflow meter output. That would be a lot of stuffing around and then why not just go with an aftermarket ECU?

A lot of $ required, but HKS had a product called the VPC from memory (Vane Pressure Convertor) which allowed AFM cars to be converted to running a MAP sensor instead. Might be worth looking into if you really need one that works.

Why don't you borrow a known good AFM from someone before you messing with fuel mixtures etc.?
