7M-GTE ECU's Tue, 16 November 2004 02:39 Go to next message
Would there be any difference between an 7M ecu attatched to an Auto box and an 7M ecu attatched to an Manual box?

Don't think so. I'm running an auto 7M ecu on a manual box. Just a matter of shorting the neutral start switch and you're up and away. Runs just like its meant to.

So is it just a rumour that the manual ECU in the 7m runs a tad more boost stock?

The ECU doesn't control boost on 7M's.

ah, so what does control the boost then on a 7M? Becuase dosnt the TCCS system run the car in safe mode after about 14psi?

Ok norbie, then perhaps it's not the ECU that cuases the difference in boost. But in the TSRM it lists the stock boost readings as:

MT 5.5-7.5 PSI
AT 4.8-6.0 PSI

Is it all in the wastegate? got me stumped if it's not the ECU.

Yes it's all pneumatically controlled.

Hmm, sweet as. Well thats good news then. The boost can easily be changed without the need of an aftermarket ECU, although not very high without bumping into fuel problems.

right, so by sticking a manual gearbox in place of my auto, will i see that increase in boost? or still be getting the lower boost for an auto?

negative, yeah i believe the stock ECU has fuel maps to handle up to 12psi, incidently it says not to apply more then 11.4psi to the wastegate actuator. Adding the lexus v8 airflow meter and 550cc/min injectors tricks the ECU and gets you %25 extra air and fuel which makes it safe to run upto 18psi or thereabouts if memory serves me correctly.

As I said, the boost is pneumatically controlled. The gearbox has nothing to do with it. If the manual cars run slightly more boost, they must have a slightly stiffer wastegate spring. This doesn't really make any difference when you install a bleed valve though.

Thanks for that guys, I now have a clearer understanding of this whole matter.

But one other thing. Where does the ECU measure boost? or that just dosnt matter and then where would you install a boost guage in to record readings of boost? from the Wastegate or from the Inlet plumbing and b4 or after the AFM? sorry so many questions

The ECU does not measure boost. A boost gauge should be attached to the plenum.

what your saying norbie makes alot more sense, and fly's in the face of what i've been reading on www.supraforums.com where the yanks say the manual ECU runs more boost.

Puts a new spin on buying second hand CT26's now.

anyway i'll leave the boosting of my 7mgte engine to you negative Razz (will have that 1jz real soon)

Meh.. bleed valves are the way to go. Just get a good one that wont spike. Turn it up till you hit fuel cut. And beleive me, when u hit fuel cut, you definitely feel it. After that, tone it down till it doesnt. Yay Very Happy

ive got a prob with my 7m boost

when my car starts boostin around 5psi, the engine cuts out and thew check engine light comes on

i checked the fault codes stored in the ecu and i got a code 34, abnormal boost pressure. how can it know this if it has no sensor? or do i have a pooped AFM or fuel pump or something?

i used to run 11psi with no worries.
