braided brake lines Tue, 16 November 2004 11:15 Go to next message
I have found a place that does braided brake lines for my 86 that are ADR approved. In people experience how how they found these lines? are they just a rice up bit or is there a real difference in feel?

and yes I tried a search

can you currently feel the effects of the normal lines expanding when you step on the brake?? i'd argue that with a vacuum boosted brake setup, you will not feel the difference due to the buffering effect of the booster on pedal feel...

but not having a booster, i wouldn't know Wink heh heh..

well I am feeling alot of things right now and i find it hard to feel the lines bulging. I wouldnt even kow what that feels like because I would mistake it with the give of the brake assembly. I realy want to know if the whole things a wank like so many other products out there.

Most brake places can do the braided lines now.

I recently fitted the ADR approved braided lines to my car. Unless you are replacing all your flexible lines with braided stuff you won't notice the benifits of less line expansion under pressure.

I needed new lines on my car and the braided stuff was not much more to have made so I got it.

I changed my front brake setup (different calipers and rotors) at the same time and it made a massive improvement over my previous setup. How much difference the lines make on their own though I don't know??? Probably not that much unless your old lines are severely perished.

The braided lines do look very neat though and are more flexible (i.e. will make a tighter turn) than the old type of hose.

As for rice??? No one will even see them unless you show them.

Same for me as KE382TG. I fitted them to my AE71 when doing a brake upgrade, because they were only $15-20 extra per side over rubber, last forever, and can turn a tighter radius.

Also used one for my clutch slave cylinder, as it runs fairly close to the dump pipe off the turbo, and will take the heat better than rubber hose.

From my personal experience on the race track and road, you won't really notice that much difference unless heavily braking, from say 160+ k/ph down to 60 and below. It is under these conditions that you will notice the "solid" feel of braided lines instead of a sorta squidgyness of rubber. I also have braided lines on my bike, this is where they make an insane difference as the MC has no buffer from the vacuum booster and is totally 100% of what you are applying with your finger.

Braided lines will give you that extra 5% of feel, which can often be the difference between locking the wheel up and braking effectively, of course ABS is a different kettle of fish.
(Definatley a bit more effective with two wheels).
