I very much doubt the limiter is connected, especially with an engine swap. Go to Matti's Mainly Toyota page (link is on the Toymods link page), it shows which wire should be cut to disable it.

Maybe its the boost cut that is holding you back? The 3tgte factory ECU cuts fuel when boost gets over 6.5 or 7psi. Maybe its just some boost creep when you fanging along in 5th gear.
There is almost no way the factory speed limiter would be in place. For this to work you'd need an electronic speedo drive.

I was serious about that
There is no way that speed limiter is able to cut your speed..
Have you tried what happens if you run 4th gear?
Some limiter it may be.. If it was boost limit, i think it would have been noticed on other gears too?
How about rev limiter? You can tell this by running 4th gear and try top speed

Is there a switch on the transmission to let the ecu know when it's in 5th?? - Just a thought but maybe rev limiter is lower in 5th just as some cars have a low rev limit when in neutral.
Otherwise it would have to be the boost cut.
Sounds really strange...
Good Luck!

What about faulty fuelpump?
Pressure drops at full boost and max fuel consumption..?
