Rebuilding a 20v can be quite costly. Really depends what you want to get out of the motor. That is if it will be a standard rebuild or you want to go oversized pistons, different rods, port and polishing the head, bigger cams etc
Thing to also look out for is the VVT Pulley which generally can be faulty on the 20v's. You will notice it at first as a click clacking type sound under the head.
I have a 20v in my Seca SX and really pleased with it.
Make sure you change the timing belt, water pump (bare minimum) and the seals if you plan to just put it into your car before a full engine rebuild.

A standard or performance rebuild? If the latter, talk to a reputable engine builder about what exactly you want from the engine...... I'm in the process of doing this myself, and as far as cost goes, I'm not expecting much change from $7k.

sorry fella's i should of explained more, its just going to be a standard rebuild... piston's,bottom end bearing,etc,etc...
VVT pulley, is there any way tellin if this ok without the motor runnin'???
plus im going to do all the general things like a major service all new rubbers and seals...
but with the bottom end... is there anywhere i can get it sent to be cleaned up and checked and balanced???... im very unfamiliar with this, is there books i can buy on how to open the head, which bolts and such... i suppose i can learn as i go, but i would feel better knowing i have a guide to go by.

It is very hard to tell whether or not the VVT pulley is functioning correctly without the motor running. The VVT pulley is the intake cam pulley. Finding one in good condition is reasonably hard and they cost quite a bit brand new as well. Fingers crossed you have got a good one
If you are not too familiar it would probably be best to get a professional to do it. If the motor is apart it would be best to get some performance work done to it at the same time. I guess it all comes down to how much you want to spend.

Speak to an engine builder dude.
As far as taking it apart goes, it should be pretty self-explanatory. If you are not confident enough to take the engine apart, I would suggest taking the whole thing to an engine builder/reconditioner and tell them to reco it.
