Okey dokey, this applies to my girlfriends EA falcon, but we'll ignore that for the moment, I just want to check if my thinking is right;

The car is running shit, so I took the plugs out.

1 lean
2 slightly lean
3 rich
4 rich
5 slightly lean
6 lean

Now, its a CFI model, with two injectors in the middle of the intake manifold, directly over the runners going to 3 and 4. My hypothesis is that the injectors are rooted, sending a shit spray that mostly makes its way to cylinders 3 and 4, with the lack of atomisation not sending enough fuel along the longer runners to cylinders 1, 2, 5, and 6.

Does this sound about right?

matt: check the cooling system as well - it's possible that the front/rear cylinders are also running much hotter from poor coolant circulation in the head or from the block up into head.

Are EA's prone to BHG issues? or serious blockages in the cooling system?

ta,
charles.

Because it has central point injection ... i.e. a glorified electronic carby.

Charles, EA's are very prone to BHG's (almost as much as 7m's Razz ), but I replaced the head about 8 months ago, with a reco, and did the HG etc. The cooling system itself could be rooted though, i'll get it checked in the next couple days.

In the meantime, i'm trying to undo the stupid screws holding the injectors in place... Mad

personally, i'd have a conversation that went:
"car ... meet car compactor..."
but i think your g/f will kill you if you take that advice...

have you also tried a tin of injector cleaner in the fuel?

Well the car is soon to be "passed on", when g/f gets her manual license, so she can drive her beetle convertible (air cooled: no water to check: less chance of blowing another head gasket).

Put a few bottles of stuff through it, might try 1 more and see how it goes.
