Help head gasket or not?? Fri, 19 November 2004 11:27 Go to next message
The car is loosing water from the radiator and steam is coming out of the exhaust. The oil doesn't have any water in it the but the idle is erratic and missing when warm. Now when i plug out number two injector it makes no difference to missing on low revs. Now i changed the injector and it makes no difference. Thats all i been able to trace it down to. Also the compression is still good??
The main thing is its smoking from exhaust (white exhaust) but not oil and loosing water. It also heats up. What wrong with it.. Can the head gasket go from too much boost? The night i installed the boost controller i had no waste gate control and the boost sky rockets but i never let it go over 16psi. Could have i fucked the head gasket. I did have the engine check light go on when i didn't have wastegate controll. If I did do the head gasket how hard are they to replace.

Any advice would be of great help

all your symptoms seem to point to a blown head gasket.
time to buy a workshop manual (if it's available) and get your hands dirty.

Yep its the head gasket.. I don't need a manual i know how to do it.. Should i put an aftermarket headgasket or replace an original. I can get them for 60 bucks from toyota.

you will need to know the torque figures for all the bolts you pull off though. I don't know where you would get them for a 1g? Maybe try someone like racecraft that race them. That is all I know of.

If you are planning to run high boost or upgrade turbos, I would be looking at an aftermarket metal headgasket.

Just going to run the standard turbos to max of 16psi..so i think the stock head gasket will be ok for that..

your better off getting a aftermarket head gasket since you have to change it. they dont cost the much more. doesnt have to be a metal one, grafite gaskets are ment to be pretty good
