i filled my 4age twice with premium
takes about 8 hours if you miss traffic and stick to the limit

yeah
i do it at night coz i like the night drive and there anr only trucks on the road

but the day is safer (ie no roos ect) but more cops

go the pacific, theres more premium stops Smile

well id imagine your 6 would be nicer to drive,,,
my 4.5 rear end and a borked exhaust made for a very VERY loud drive at 110kph Sad

it normally takes about 8-9 hours sticking to speed limits and stopping every now and then for coffee Smile

just remember. its not how long it takes...just as long as you get there...so take it easy and get plenty of rest before hand and dont hesitate to pull over and take a nap if u feel a bit hoya goin.

good luck and have a safe trip.

8 hrs is a VERY fast and i would suggest almost illegal timeframe for a bris->syd trip.

having only JUST THIS WEEKEND done this exact trip i can tell you the finer details....

Bris->Syd = 850-900kms depending on exact locations

TIME: approx 9 hrs driving time, excluding stops for fuel, food, etc.

As for fuel consumption, the 5me is a thirsty bitch... but you know the kms now so you can work it out based on your average hwy economy.

Signs are everywhere, just follow the big 1

nah 8 hours is @ 110kph (10% rule) if leaving @ 10pm from bris to sydney or leaving at 1am from syd to bris
and only taking 2 stops and a piss stop outside of coffs too

ps. ive done this trip about 12 times (return) in the last 3 years..

wat is the speed limit... 100 or 110.. cause speed camera's are set to 9k's over, so 118k's which will b quite easy to determine with the digital dash from an MA61. i will probably stock every 3-4 hours to get some shit to eat and stock up the passenger seat with food and drink supplies. Still does anyone know the cost in fuel.. i am putting $200 for premuim... will i get more mileage from Premo rather than normal Unlead

should get more mileage out of premium on hwy

ps, no one can tell you your fuel budget but $200 is 'safe' i rekon

ps, its mostly 110 so you can do 10% of the limit if your speedo reads exact

hmm ok... well the bloke that owns the supra atm puts premium in it all the time... would it be bad for the engine if i went from running premium to just normal unleaded back home.. cause in tassie Unleaded is about $1.06/L and premium is around $1.15/L, but i will use Premuim on the trip home

Never done it in a big car.

Travelled from Brisbane to Sydney in 12 hours, including fuel/food and piss stops, but that was in a KE11 back in 1992.

Should take less time than that now, depending on traffic and your route.

The boat from sydney leaves at 9pm.. do u guys reckon leave from brisbane at about 9-10am just to leave me heaps of time so i don't get lost or watever, is it easy to find the find the place to board the boat in sydney... i mean coming from tiny little tassie, sydney will b fucking huge

you'll never hold that speed all the way down - too many slower sections (until the motorway) that close up to one lane or simply waiting for overtaking lanes to appear as you won't know the road well enough to hold he speed and safely overtake at all the tight and dangerous spots.

use this site as a guide:
<http://www.travelmate.com.au/MapMaker/MapMaker.asp ?TM_Page=Mapmaker>
plot in the towns/places you'll stop at as separate routes and see what time it comes up with.

you'll be driving on your own, on unfamiliar highways, thru unknown cities and without a navigator so you'll be regularly stopping to check where you are and when you get off the motorway.

the pac hwy isn't the safest around - it carries a lot of traffic - do youself (and the newly purchased supra) a favour by taking it easy and by slowly getting used to the car (compared to my turbo 18R, the MA61 with 5ME has very ordinary accelaration and power when you most need it like overtaking trucks on hills).

As you'r a solo driver, I'd strongly suggest you have a long break at the 5-6 hr mark otherwise you'll fall asleep at the wheel despite the jolt+coffee+coke and and this'll be the last we hear of you.

the heat might be an issue for you, but i'd not be driving an unknown hwy at night in an unfamiliar car. i'd also avoid driving at dusk & dawn or you'llcop a kangaroo thru the windscreen

... give yourself 24hrs.

fwiw: in a 5ME supra, i drove from Rockhampton to Maleny (sunshine coast) in just over 6hrs -we would have made brisbane in about 7.5 hrs. We only had quick food/petrol stops. We drove during the day so the light was better and the unknown highway was visible. Happily sat at 115-125km/h when we had clear road.

night time driving is different. No traffic, minimum slowdowns and overtakings means your average speed stays much closer to 100kph.

8 hours is still averaging well above the speed limit.

I was just looking at the original owners manual. It says to run the 5ME on 98 octane petrol.

the humble (and not so mighty) 5ME will run on any kind of petrol - UL, LRP or PULP..

PULP makes it a little more brisk and slightly lighter on the throttle in cruise.

well my dad's GF used to have a 5ME in her MA61 and she ran that on LRP, but this bloke has run it on Premo all it's life.. wat is your point Yian... that it should run on unleaded/premo or LRP
