That's fucked up!
Man, that's why I try not to leave shops when I have my car booked in. And if I do have to leave it, I mark down the kms on my car...
I know how tempting it would be for a techie to thrash my car.

depending on what you're getting done... tell them shit like its got fake rego, bad clutch, whatever to stop them laeving the shop... often i cant hang around to watch them myself, but i too always mark down km's, and when i ask why the km's have increased... its always "had to take for a test spin" to which i reply "when did i authorise that"... and thats usually when u get free shit or damn good discounts.
however i dont ever go back to those shops anymore. anyone who hassles you out of the shop doesnt deserve to look after your car.
I used to work as a car audio fitter, and would often get people wanting to hang around in the workshop and ogle - or "inspect" as they would say - at what im doing to their car. Unfortunately we had no isurance to cover them in the workshop and they would usually always want to touch shit and end up breaking stuff. I understand how people feel about their pride and joy, hence why i would ask them to watch from outside the workshop and to please not disturb my work, so that i can comlpete a professional job quickly and correctly. I would also explain that by them watching it would often disturb me and i ake me nervous... which it did.
Too often we got d!cks who just keep asking.. what are u doing man??? .. DONT DO THAT!! etc etc,... without any knowledge of what i am really doing...
that said i have total respect for people working on my car, and i watch from a distance after asking if its ok. Some guys are so nice as to show you how they are doing what they're doing and involve you.... techies out there - take a page from these guys' books!

What a dick!!!
We techies aren't all bad...
At my work, Chatswood Toyota, we don't thrash that bad... When there is a car in for some sort of driving problem, we take it out for a drive and try to fihure out what the problem is... Whether we have to drive the car hard, steer violently or whatever, we don't thrash cars...

I know the people up here who install the sound gear don't really like people watching over them. What usually happens is the customer tries to tell the lecky what to do. and they get really pissed off at this.
My car is currently in getting painted, so i don't have that worry of them thrashing it around. but a few days after i took it in i thought i wouldn't ring them, but just pop in and see how they are going. they were great, didn't mind at all and it actually helped them with a few questions they had to ask me.
If it wasn't a paint place and somewhere you could go to buy lil misc. stuff i'd keep going back to them they are that good. I told them i was going to get a few stickers of their business name to promote their paint job on my car and they thanked me for that too.
On another note, i took the Rav 4 into the toyota dealer the other day with 1/4 tank fuel. i pick it up and it's down to about 1/8th. so i don't know how far they drove. but i'll take note of the km's next time.

Dealerships will usually use a bit of fuel... For every car that gets serviced, they get:
Driven downstairs in the morning,
Driven up to work on and test driven by the mechanic,
Then driven back downstairs,
Then driven up for the tester to look over the job and then he takes it out for a test run,
Then he drops it back downstairs,
And finally, it gets driven up to the waiting customer at the end of the day...
Also, the car may be driven more to get washed, wheel alignment and any other special extras that need to be done...
So keep in mind that we may use a bit of fuel, but the km's will not rise by much...

Car got dyno tuned but theres no way you could tell if they took it on the road or no as the k's would have already moved heaps but i liked Mida's in Hornsby, got the car back with only 1 extra K on it and when i booked it in they put it up on the hoist and showed ne exactly what they had to do and how they are going to do it.
