which turbo for 7mgte? PLZ HELP Mon, 22 November 2004 10:29 Go to next message
I am about to replace the turbo and manifold on my 7mgte powered supra mk 3.

It is going to be part of the following engine build:

engine out
block decked and o-ringed, all gasket faces machined, inlet and exhaust manifolds match ported. HKS 2mm MHG stopper type and ARP head bolts torqued at 75nm. It will also have aftermarket ecu, intercooler, BOV and exhaust. Prob injectors too.

Im currently trying to source all these parts (I live in Adelaide). I also need a turbo/manifold/wastegate setup. I am aiming for 250-300kw. I'd like to spend under 3k on turbo/man/gate, so it seems it'll all be second hand. Which set up would cater to my needs? I was thinking hks to4e.

Also, can anyone think of anything else i'll need for this build? (Im also getting race pads & a big clutch)

Thanks guys.

Yeh, i'd back the TO4E. Thats just from what i've read out of an article Reg Reimer produced:

Over the past few months I have Dyno tested three different Turbos on the Supra GTE. See the Dynojet printouts in this article. The best turbo tested to date has been the HKS Sport Turbo Upgrade turbo kit for the 7M-GTE. This Turbo spools very fast and has a very wide power band, about 3300 rpm to well past red line if required. The Dyno runs show this turbo still pulling hard at 6500 rpm {see printout below}. This HKS turbo produced 339 HP and 398 ft/lbs of torque at the rear wheels. This turbo required an upgraded clutch to hold the power. The clutch I installed when I put the 7M-GTE engine in would not hold any more than 300 HP and 340 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels

Second a vote for John at ImportBitz.

Talk to Bill Keen at ATS on Marion Road, as he has done heaps of work on Danny's car (HKS_TRD on these forums - and he is in the process of changing from a highflowed CT26 to a GT35 or so on a HKS manifold), and he is also rebuilding my modified CT26 which has a T04B Super V Trim Compressor and P Trim turbine in teh CT26 housings.

Danny's should make about 300 rwkW, and I'm aiming for about 260kW at the flywheel.

Cheers
