Increasing 3tgte Injector Size Mon, 22 November 2004 12:03 Go to next message
Just wondering if anyone has done this using the factory computer? Rolling Eyes
Not sure what they are standard and only looking at say the next size up. But say standard they are 360cc, if I plug in a set of say 420cc will it still run or will it flood down low and not run on anything other than full throttle? Rolling Eyes

Stock injectors are 295cc. I have run 440cc on the stock AFM and ECU with pretty good results.
I think 440's are about as big as you can go with the stock AFM. I had to retune the AFM, although top end was very good you will lose out on cold start or idle as the changes you make are across the whole rev range and the reason why I upgraded to an aftermarket system.
Unless your going to upgrade the trubo as well I would just keep the old injectors and ECU and just give it a bit more boost, say 10 or 12psi. The stock injectors have a bit left in them on a stock setup.

cheers,
Simon

I have found the 440's to be a bit of a pain with the standard ecu... Where it was running way too rich at idle in the mornings...

Do you have an aftermarket turbo???

If not i wouldnt even bother changing the injectors...

If you want a cheapish solutions many people have used the Megasquirt ECU (about $250) on the 3TGTE with great success...

Sorry guys I should have explained myself a bit better. Confused
Already have a different turbo Mitsubishi TD05, large front mount inter-cooler and a front entry manifold and it's currently running about 13psi.
So, in theory Rolling Eyes , if the stock ones are 295cc, if I upped them to say 330cc (if there is such a size, right resistance, etc) than I may be able to run say 15-16psi without to much trouble, without causing to much problems with cold start and idle, you would think. Cold start etc is not to much of a problem as this is my toy car and only dose about 5-7000kms per year.

Oh ok well in that case you could benefit from larger injectors... There are plenty of people who have put the 440's on the 3t with little trouble however this has not been my experience....

If you could find some injectors around the 330 - 350 it would be a lot easier to get idling correctly... They are just top feed injectors and and should be quite easy to get other injectors to fit..

Even still I would get a cheap air/fuel meter/guage installed as these engines have a tendancy to blow the factory pistons when it gets too lean....

Other than that your idea sound like the go.. anything beyond that I would again urge you to look at an aftermarket ecu

Already have a Autometer A/F ratio which dosen't read lean at the moment but that dosen't mean it not running very close to 100% duty cycle.
Another thing I hadn't mentioned was it dose already have ross racing forged pistons, gapless rings, o-ringed and a cleaned up head. I proberly should have explain this from the start, sorry Confused .

Well if youve gone to all the trouble of doing the above modification ditch the factory ECU... It is by far your weakest link and fiddling around with the factory system with that leave of modification will achieve minimal gains for a lot of piss farting around..

If your budget doesnt stretch to a Haltech and the like as i stated above look into a Megasquirt... Cheap reliable and will run bigger injectors a lot better than the old analog ljet tronic based system in there now...

Yeah, yeah I know what I have to do but the budget just doesn't stretch that far. That's why I was looking for that little bit more to satisfy me for now (sound like something your wife would say to you Confused ). This was never intended to be a permanent solution but one to try and squeeze 15-16 psi until I can afford an aftermarket.
