hey people im new to this forum and just recently purchased a 1989 Toyota Supra Ga70 with a 1ggte (yesterday)
after doing some research i found the head gasket is prone to blowing up due to toyota not bolting the head on with enough torque.. ive read its a good idea to get a metal head gasket fitted and ARP studs..
If anyone has done this work could u let me know the costs involved and if its worth being done..

thats actually the 7MGTE that is prone to blowing head gaskets, not the 1GGTE which is in your car.
Saying that i have chewed through 2 of them

The only reason you'll get a BHG on a 1G-GTE is that you are running too much boost on an old engine with a cheap HG
Or if the engine has been sitting around for ages and the HG has corroded.
Anyway, a graphite head gasket should be fairly easy to get.

Hmm, yes nice choice Jon, nice choice...Oh, i mean good work Dude!!! Zactly the same as my car
Anyways, as everyone has said its the 3 litre single turbo 7M that has head gasket trouble, and unless you want insane power figures, yours should be fine. Im running 9 pound through my dead stock engine at the moment and its fine. Im sure theres people out there running more!
