Okay, did anyone see the article on Today Tonight about directory assistance? Well, I'm pissed, because they are dribbling shit and I'm going to have a shitload of shitty complaint calls on the weekend when I go to work...
They were saying bullshit about how the voice recognition system doesn't work...speak fucking ENGLISH! I tried like 10 things after the article which all worked, people are fucking dreaming if they think that its going to recognise Mr and Mrs Smith of Cherrytree Lane or whatever...
Sorry, had to vent, it pisses me off because once again, people who think they know what they are talking about are making shit up again...right now I'm thinking of an old thread where a cop said the flames from a V8 Supercar were from a vented BOV...same shit, different smell...

Looks like you missed ACA... They had some crap on fuels... Anout how they contain high levels of ethanol...
I've taped it for anyone that wants to see ut that missed out...

What they were really going on about was the fact that the directory assistance as done away with the old one where you speak to a person! Which means you cant find out the number thing that the new voice recognition system doesn't recognise!

Dude, if the recognition thing doesn't pick up what you said, it goes through to an operator, and if the operator is any good they should be able to find it quickly. My average time on a call is like ~17 secs and I'm not rude or shit like that...

I think the main thing is people expect too much of the voice recognition, it works well, if you actually look for something thats on it.

But when I want a phone number I want a phone number! I dont want to have to ring a number then sound like a cockhead speaking to a computer to then find out that computer knows shit and then have to wait for an operator!
If I was put strait onto an operator in the first place I would have the number in less than half the time!

I used to use it all the time untill they went to this voice recognition crap thing! I used to ringup and say put me through to whoever and it was done! Not now...But it doesn't matter anyway! I can just ring the desk at my work and get one of the girls to find the number I want and then put me through! Oh and this is cheaper too

and the new white pages is even easier to look up in now, and it doesn't really take that long to look up a number

I thought the voice reconition was only for the more popular numbers.. Hospitals, police etc.. 
It is annoying though.  . Waste's some time.. unless it picks it up straight away..

Maybe when i'm up the tower and I need to speak to the ACA about interferring signals! Or I need to get in contact with a coustomer to turn off a microwave! Or I need to order some more cable! Or I need to get in contact with the weather bureo about some clouds I can see in the distance!
Are these good enough reasons??

well you think if you had a job like that you would have most of those numbers saved in the phone. anyway get over it, i know sometimes you wouldn't be able to get your hands on a whitepages but most of the time you can.

man i take calls for bigpond you should try being on the reciving side of "your server disconected me" umm yeah and your $30 dollar 4 year old modem had nothing to do with it???
or "you keep disconecting me to make me call up" yeah every time they call us it cost telstra like $16

the voice recognition system only recognises the top 1000 requested names.
the system i find most annoying is for there mobie net. it asked me for my mobile, got it wrong then asked me to say it again or just type it in the keypad. why couldnt i have just typed it in the first time. would have been much easier and quicker

They deliver to the base of the tower, then I can yank it up on the end of some rope! When It takes 2 or more hours to get up there, you dont want to climb down and then up again!

i think the new one is great so much clearer and easier to understand and find names, hear about the guy in SA who bought a motor home, set it on cruise control then got up and went out the back to make himself a coffee then of course it crashed and now he is trying to take the dealer he bought it from to cought simply because he is that much of a dumbarse he though cruise control meant it drove itself
