Power steering in T18

I have an RA60 and T18 side by side with no engine. wondering if its possible to change the power steering over to the T18. It all looks ok except for where it goes into the fire wall. Not sure if it will be able to be connected up there??
I'm really hoping for someone who has actually given this a crack or succedded before, as if you havent I probably already know more about it than you.

The chances of steering racks being compatible between an A6 chassis and an E7 chassis are practically nil.
But you know a lot more than I do, so disregard everything I say.

AE86 power sterering rack will have the correct steering geometry, but you'll then need the power steering drag links, crossmemeber and brackets, and column too. The inclined angle for engine mounts between T and A series motors will also be different too.

I'm fairly confident that I will be able to make everything after (and including) the rack fit ok, I'm just wondering if the I will able to fit the RA60 steering rack up into the T18 steering column without to much of a hassle?
To norbie - I'm not trying to say I know more than you or anyone else. I'm just saying that as I have the two cars side by side without engines in them that I PROBABLY have more of an idea than someone who hasnt dealt much with the steering in these cars

Did the T18 use a steering box? If so the column will be no good as there is no bearing in it to support it (the steering box used to support the end).
When i converted steering box to rack n pinion I tried 2 methods,
1. press a bearing into the end of original steering column, cut shaft and weld splined end onto it. - result was dodgy and hassle to engineer.
2. fit a steering column from a car that already had r & p. - again no easy, but less custom fabrication and IMHO much better option.
Cheers

adapting a r&p rack is definately doable and has been done before.
i know a guy who ahs done this conversion on a te71 and has had to cut a small bit out of the firewall.
if you found a ae86 power steer rack you could mod that in quite easily, well relatively easily..

That TE71 is probably the car that's busily rusting away in my backyard right now

Yeah I can understand wanting rack n pinion, but don't understand power steer.

The main reason is I have the two cars sitting there with no engines most of it looks really simple so I thought I'd find out if the rest of it is or not. After hearing you guys, and the mods you've done and given the car's steering isnt that heavy, I dont think I could be bovered.
But I would also quite like a look at the conversion done on the TE71 as well if you can get some.
Thanks for all your help guys.

Unfortunately I pulled the rack, crossmember, etc. out of that car again and put the rack where it belongs - into MY car Anyway, you can use a crossmember from a KE70, AE71, AE86, etc., it bolts in fine. I also understand that you can mix+match steering column bits and come up with something that fits just fine. The power steering rack has the uni joint mounted a bit higher, and so the 2nd shaft of the column is slightly shorter. In the TE71 I originally just made a shaft to suit and trimmed the firewall to suit, because I didn't know any different.
It might be worth asking Troy at Toyospares, he also has an AE86 PS rack in his TE71.

Actually I've seen that TE71 about 6 months ago, I was there getting some parts and got talking to him. I used to work just around the corner from toyospares. I might drop past there and have a chat with him.
