1J with Trust TD06 25G

Hi,
I was wondering what people thought of this turbo when strapped to the side of a 1J. I know they are not the largest turbo's out there but maybe with the righ support systems I think they could support between 250 and 280rwkw (behind an auto)?
They seem to be used on SR20's and WRX's alot but I have seen a few on 1JZ's but they seem not hugely popular in japan. Most seem to be T78 or T76 turbos.
Has anyone had any experience with the TD06 25G on 1J's or even RB25DET's?
Thanks

I think I read somewhere hat the biggest TD06 is essentially the same as the T61. I was also under the (probably mistaken) impression that they supported more like 500-550hp. However, I'd be interested to see how laggy it would be (plain bearing) on a 1J.

Thanks for the info guys that is helpfull. It will be interesting to see what the lag will be like. The rear housing does'nt seem to large so hopefully it will be ok. Stay tuned!
The TD06-25G seems to be a bit of an unknown quantity on that sheet though. I don't think it will be a huge power turbo but should do me for a while anyway.

how much difference is there between this turbo and the Trust t67? I have seen quite a few t67 1jz's. So this would give a little more mid range and a little less up top I would think.
Keep us posted! There aren't enough single turbo 1jz's around here

I thought this turbo was generally used in a TWIN kit for the 1J. For a BIG Trust SINGLE, you're more likely to see a TD07 or TD08, right up to the T88.
Personally, I'm still dreaming of picking up a cheap twin T300 kit.

generally speaking, the TD-06 25G is used on engines around the 2.5 litre mark for good mid range grunt. they are not a massive turbo, but they do have some good squirt behind them.
i have seen them on plenty of mid spec RB25's and such.
and when used in a twin kit for a 1JZ (the ones i've seen were 2 20G's, not 25's), one made around 350 or 370 RWKW, and the turbo's still had a fair amount of flow left. so a slightly larger (better breathing) exhaust housing (the 25G), and the right support systems, i dont see why your power goal is unrealistic.
you might want to speak to a reputable turbo shop about this though, or a really good second hand importer that has spent time in japan, as they should be able to give you some definate answers on whether it is a viable option.

I have 3 friends with this turbo.
1 is the 20G on an S15, makes 250rwkw, andanother 20G on a 4 door R33 (RB25) he makes 270rwkw, and another on a 2 door GTsT R33, but his is 25G, makes 330rwkw.

There was a JZA70 Supra in Zoom a couple of issues back that had a VVTi single turbo 1J engine but with twin TD06 20G's. That was making some huge rear wheel power. Totally different set up though.
I totally agree with you boxh34d the 25G rear housing should be more suited to the single application.
It won't be a top end ball tearer but midrange should be great and that is where the fun is at on the street!
I think the SR20 and WRX TD06's are all 20G rear housings so I obviously missed that.
I have also seen one on the JMS R33 red drift car that has a RB25 with ported head, Power FC, 550cc injectors, big intercooler and it made 308rwkw. It would surely be a manual as well so behind my auto with the right support systems maybe I will reach close to the 280rwkw mark.

25G refers to the compressor wheel!!!
TD06 refers to the Covers,Core, Shaft & turbine.
You'll usually see a reference the 12cm associated with them, this refers to the turbine housing size (like garretts have an A/R).
They also come in TD06S & TD06SH which have larger turbines and housings, usually used on rotaries, 2JZ's etc...
If you have any Q's about Mitsi Turbos, give "crunchy" a PM on the www.nzmmc.co.nz forums, he knows his sh!t inside & out!!!
