Modified car insurance

Just wanted to give Shannons a bit of a wrap.
I previously had a quote with a big name modified car insurer (don't know if I'm allowed to mention names badly), and they had a very reasonable premium but a real kick in the nuts excess.
Gave shannons a call expecting the worst and they had the same reasonable premium, but with no kick in the nuts bonus (just regular $400 excess).
btw, reasonable for me is $1400 for an aw11. Which incidently is what I'm paying with a big name insurer who doesn't insure modifications (again, name withheld).

Wow, they said no probs to me and I'm doubling my HP.
They basically said, as long as the RTA passes it, then they've got no problems.

When i rang them the first question was whats the car? Told them it was a Toyota Supra, they asked if it was an import...said yes and they were like NO. Didnt want anything to do with me.

I am with Shannons (have been for some time now). They said any mods, any power as long as it is engineer/rego approved (which I am). The the shell of my car is one of the only original parts left on my car. I have gone from about 17rwkw to 170rwkw and they have no problem with that, and I will move to more power in the future which will be no problem either.
Celica John, is it the mods and your age that's a problem? or just the mods (which we can only assume are not RTA approved???)
Mine is comprehensively insured for $430/year and I have salvage rights too (with no cost at time of claim).
I know age is a big problem with car insurance, I am now moving into the cheaper zone, one good thing about getting older I guess.
